Social Media is a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of User Generated Content

Social media is the democratization of information, transforming people from content readers into content publishers. It is the shift from a broadcast mechanism to a manyto-many model, rooted in conversations between anchors, people and peers. Social media uses the wisdom of the crowds to connect information in a collaborative manner. Social media can take many forms, including Internet forums, message boards, weblogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures and video.
