#33481 E-DCH Signalling Channels Power Control

Power control for AGCH is based on CQI
AGCH is only sent by the serving radio leg Since HS-DSCH is the DL RAB for HSUPA CQI is always available

Power is updated each HSDPA TTI = 2ms

Initial Tx power PCQI is given by a hard-coded LUT using the CQI and the mean square error of the CQI, i.e. PCQI = LUT(CQI, MSE(CQI))
MSE takes the channel variations into account

OMC Parameter eagchPowerOffSet allows further control of the Tx power

This offset is a positive or negative constant offset across all CQI values Parameter range 45 dB to +65 dB

Final AGCH Tx power PAGCH is then given by PAGCH = PCQI + eagchPowerOffSet

Save DL resources, improve performances!

23 | xCEM Introduction | October 2007 All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2007

Power control of E-AGCH channels

E-AGCH power control Simulated impact on power consumption as a percentage of total power
(1% BLER target, Ior/Ioc = -4 as a worst case, TTI = 10ms)

Channel typical 1 AGCH PA3 5.60 %

PC off max 5.60 % typical 0.92 %

PC on max 1.63 %

Significant power saving

E-AGCH power control becomes critical as more than one E-AGCH and 2 ms TTI will be supported in UA06. Moreover larger HSUPA mobile penetration will be available

#34102 Flexible HSDPA modulation usage versus codes

Enhancements Modulation 16QAM is preferred when

number of remaining codes is

limited. Increase the transport block size in order to use remaining unused codes

by preferring QPSK modulation

High benefits for cat 8 UE

Implementation Define new TFRC tables according to

the number of available HS-DSCH

codes For the same Transport burst size, QPSK modulation is more robust but requires more codes iCEM (UA06) xCEM (UA05.1.1)

Higher throughput in code limited situation and for category 8 handsets
