State mandated achievement tests for students in grades 3-8 Covers the subject areas of reading, English/language arts, math, science, and social studies
Students in grades 1 & 2 will not take the CRCT this year.
To ensure students are learning at their grade level To provide data to teachers, schools, and school districts in order to make better instructional decisions
Purpose
The CRCT is designed to measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). The assessments yield information on academic achievement at the student, class, school, system, and state levels. This information is used to diagnose individual student strengths and weaknesses as related to the instruction of the CCGPS, and to gauge the quality of education throughout Georgia.
The CRCT measures how well a student has acquired knowledge and skills covered by the curriculum for their grade level.
To provide information about the academic achievement of students, classes, schools, school systems, and the state
To identify individual student strengths and weaknesses
Results
Third grade students are required to Meet or Exceed Expectations in the area of Reading in order to be considered for promotion
Fifth grade students are required to Meet or Exceed Expectations for both Reading and Math in order to be considered for promotion A Score of 800 meets this requirement
Are students with disabilities or students who are English Language Learners required to take the CRCT?
State rules and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandate that all students participate in the state assessment program. All students are tested in all content areas of the CRCT and they are tested on grade level.
Encourage your child to use good study habits and testtaking skills (following directions, avoiding careless errors, and reviewing work)
Explain the purpose of the test. (it gives students and opportunity to show what they have learned in school)
Let your child know that you consider the test important and the child should try his or her best.
Point out some items may be more difficult than others. Reassure your child there will be ample time to take the tests and that it is okay if he or she does not know all of the answers.
Encourage your child to take his time and to check over his answers if time permits.
Be sure your child gets plenty of sleep and has a good breakfast. Be sure your child is at school on time. (Rushing and worrying about being late could affect performance on test.)
Remember to ask your child about testing at the end of each day.
