Sustainable Development of Jakarta

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia

The area of Jakarta is about 661.52 km

.... with a population of approximately 10,187,595 people

Two problems that must be solved :

FLOOD UNEMPLOYMENT

PROBLEM

The Flood Impacts

Disruption on activity of 1. Economic 2. Government 3. Social

Causes of Flood

Land subsidence

Caused by massive use of groundwater

THE IMPACTS OF UNEMPLOYMENT

Economic Impacts (Poverty, Homeless)

Social Impacts (Crime)

Causes of Unemployment

High Urbanisation in Jakarta (Up to 157.000 people each year)

Lack of Jobs (Ratio Unemployment : Jobs Up to 5:1)

High of natalitas in 2011 >>1.96%(Up to 200.000 in 2010)

Lack of Education and Skill

Relocating economic center (enterprise, market, factory, etc) from city to rural area. Developing infrastructures in rural area (roads, bridges, electricity, telecomunication, etc) Applying Local Economic Development in rural area. Raising awareness on local residents to build their own

Stimulating partnership between microbusiness and big companies

Giving allowance (soft loan, reducing the tax)

Organizing the exhibitions for small and home industry

Providing an easy permits to establish the business

Birth Control Program

Delaying the age of marriage

Programs to increasing the opportunities for getting education

Free payment of education, increasing education facilities. Distribution of opportunities for obtaining education. Giving scholarship. Provide training by the department of labor for increasing the labor skills. Encourage companies to implement the foster father system for poor people.

Conclusion
To overcome the flood, we need to have a good urban planning wich could reduce the amount of rainwater flowing on the surface of land, maximizes water drainage area and water flowing in river. To help reducing unemployment, the government should press the rate of population growth, reduces migration and encourage people to create jobs for others.
