perhaps made to check the design effectiveness and
the fit of the garment.

Proto Sample
First sample made in the substitute fabric and trim to
check the fit, construction of the given style.

Proto request for the same style is sent to more than one
factory by BUYER so that the quality and cost factors can be
compared.

In the end, the most competitive factory with the best quality
samples will be getting the order.

First Proto Request
Factory Merchandiser has to confirm
within 24hrs of receiving the proto request
to the Buyer whether it is possible to produce
the style in factory or not.
Unless the style is carryover garment from
a previous season, a prototype is to be
submitted within 10 days of the receipt
of the complete kit along with the costing.

Proto Kit
Its a package provided to factory to understand the
requirement of category in order to make a garment.

1) Cover Letter :
The covering letter requesting the submission
of a detailed cost break down and a garment proto type.


2) Kit Packing List :
List of all of the items that included in the kit,
as well as any important comments to note about the
package.

3) Bill of Material :
A Listing of all the components required to
produce the style, such as fabrics, trims, labels,
embellishments, etc. It also lists each color way of the style
and requested fabric and trim colors.

4) Specification Sheet :
The Spec. sheet includes all graded size
measurements, logo and graphic placements, measurement
tolerances, construction information and a drawing of the
style.

Proto Kit
5) Pattern :
Buyer may provide a specific paper which must
be followed for each style. The seam allowances are included
in the pattern.

6) Kit Garment :
The kit prototype is a garment indicating how
Buyer expects the style to be constructed. Kit garments are
not always included. The decision is based on style
complexity and experience level of the factory with a certain
style.

9) Kit Costing Worksheet :
Buyer sends a Performa of a costing Worksheet.
All the details like, fabric, trims, labor and packing costs
should be entered in the costing work sheet.
The complete worksheet must be returned to
buyer within 7 working days from the receipt of the kit.

SS Processing will start once Prototype is approved

Size Set Samples
To confirm that sizes are graded properly prior to start of
production.

After PP is approved, proceed for SSS.

Size range should include one garment of each size.

Made form original fabric and trims.

Production cannot begin until the SSS is approved.

Qualified Reference Samples (QRS)
It is production representative sample

It is made at the actual manufacturing facility

Should be made in correct material, construction and
embellishment.

Should not made in sample room.

The QRS will be used by the Factory and Buyer during
factory product audits.

Wash Samples
A wash sample is used to approve wash and finish (look
and hand).

This sample should match wash standard guidelines from
Production/ Merchant representative.

The objective is to approve wash by first cut date for
production.
