INTRODUCTION
The junior high school was the invention to
adolescence requiered a special educative
answer.
The reforms of education tent to be introduced as
an answer to the problems related to the school.
Pragmatism has been the main engine in the way
of operation of american schools.
The junior high school meant a dedication to the
continuous change to improve the society.
Creation of a segment inside americaan schools.
CALLS FOR CHANGE
The Diezcouncil demanded to reduce elementrary
schools to 6 years and 6 years to junior high school.
Some young people like immigrant children dropped
out from school to get a job and help their families,
but some other teenagers did that because they
didnt like school.
In 1910, Frank Bunker, the superintendent of Bekerley
schools in California, opened the first junior high
school, the McKinley School, known as Introductory
Junior High school.
In 1913, the Economy and Time in Education Council
took the plan 6-3-3 considering that teenagers at
age of twelve are interested in the preparation for
future jobs.
THE FACTORY MODEL
The leaders of public schools were obssesed with
the search of unique school
The american model was the factory model, that
guaranteed the best product designed in the
most economical way
The idea of a correct education for each child is
opposed to the effor of creating a standard
education in which the unique school is adjusted
to everyone
Elwood. P. Cubberley asked the schools to left the
ide that everyone is equal democratically and
that society doesnt have classes
John Dewey said that if life conditions had
changed, so had educative response, too.
Junior highschool became a kind of agency
of distribution, preparing the academic high
society for university and the others for
opportunities in the sales world, creating
academical, vocational and commercial
paths.

methods that werent so reliable: innate
differences between ethic groups. Physical
characteristics and geographical location.
After World War II teachers and psychologists
looked forward to respond to adolescents
special development needs.

academic topics like English, Algebra,
science, Arts, and Music.

High School because it could become
into a copy of High School.

At the end of the 80s the Carnegie

about teenagers eduaction.
Middle and Intermediate and high school,
are the most important strength in society.
All the schools are reorganized with experts in
collaboration with planning.

schools to solve educative and personal
problems.
