Introduction


Diversity plays a major role in addressing complex issue is workplace.
- race and gender issue
- multiculturalism
- tolerance of religious practices
- full inclusion of people with disability in the workplace

Effective diversity increases an organization access to widest pool of skill
abilities and ideas

Workforce diversity must be a partnership, not merely a total delegation from
the top but needs active involvement.

Theres a great deal of debate about qualities needed for a successful
diversity executive.



What attributes must a diversity
executive have in order to be
effective in corporations today?
How can a diversity executive
work in the corporate board
room but stay in touch with the
various constituency groups and
their needs and still remain
credible and effective?
Common questions asked by experts:
Its about passion and leadership.
We need to exhibit leadership in:
- our personal approach to diversity
- the policies embraced for the company

In his book, A Business and Its Beliefs, Watson said, If an
organization is to meet the challenges of a changing world, it must
be prepared to change everything about itself except its basic
beliefs as it moves through corporate life.

He identifies three basic beliefs to serve as the cornerstone of
IBMs approach to business:
Respect for the individual
Service to the customer
Excellence must be a way of life

(i) the people working for their company
(ii) their customer

The most importance quality for a diversity leadership:
(i) Ability to motivate others
(ii) Ability to draw others into the debate of a subject
(iii) Ability to convince others to change the character of the workplace to make the team
stronger and a better performer in the marketplace.

There are 3 issues :
i) First issue is race
In USA issue of race has been a pivotal item.
- Driven by immigration pattern.
ii) Second issue is sexual orientation
- the driving force was the debate around whether or
not to offer domestic partner benefits.
- most of the companies still not offer domestic
partner benefits 145 Fortune 500 companies

-The driving force was the debate around whether or not
to offer domestic partner benefits.

CONCEPT
OF BEING

- Do the company is limited to conducting its
dayto-day operations or have a perspective that
crosses borders?
- Do the company treat a fairness treatment of
women, people with disabilities, gays and
lesbians and ethnic minorities?
- To understand the workforce diversity legislation
in each country where the company do business.
