In Latin American society the role model is-

unfortunately-American model based on individual
consumption, expressed through the purchase of
products manufactured by the advertising industries
whose characteristics are to create a need for
consumption. The private vehicle is an excellent product
of this society, is "supremely" justifiable use of private
vehicles in a large city in a country like Colombia, Chile,
Brazil, Mexico, etc.., Due to mobility problems
insecurity, and primarily by the private vehicle provides
a sense of freedom and individual development, which is
not achieved in most other modes of transport.
To these justifications is needed to link
another socio- cultural characteristics of
the population , a car in Colombia , for
many people , represents a symbolic
increase their socio- economic ,
emotional , loving, etc features. , Ie , a
vehicle is much more than an alternative
mobility - becomes - almost a
requirement to move up your individual
"development."

To speak of public transport in Cali and its relation to
mobility in the city, it is necessary to differentiate the types of
public transport in the world: the first, corresponding to
public transport (buses and vans) and the second, the
individual public transport (taxis). From November 2008
came into operation Integrated Mass Transit System in the
West (MIO), which will ensure the mobility of persons
articulated with capacity for 150 people on busways buses, for
that reason, the MIO is not a problematic for mobility in Cali,
but decreases tool mobility problems for many people, but
fails to decongest the city roads.

The rating of public transport provided by buses and
minibuses in Cali is poor compared to systems of public
transport buses in other large Latin American cities such
as Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires or Sao Paulo , even
though they faced worse situations mobility . The
operation of the transport companies ( private) and the
lack of regulation and oversight of municipal
institutions originated , perhaps, the second - biggest
problem affecting mobility in the city and, in turn,
encourages the use of private vehicles . Two factors that
affect mobility in the city from this sector, the first is the
way to hiring the drivers , which is done based on the
amount of mobilized passengers, that is, the more
people are mobilized in a small bus (or bus) the driver of
the vehicle will get a higher salary.
The fucking problem with this type of contract is in
competition for passengers at this entails between
conductors of different public transport companies (with
very similar routes or destinations), and even between
the same company drivers, this phenomenon popularly
known as the "penny war".
