MAXIMA: a system for the manipulation of
symbolic and numerical expressions,
including differentiation, integration, Taylor
series, Laplace transforms, ordinary
differential equations, systems of linear
equations, polynomials, and sets, lists,
vectors, matrices, and tensors. Maxima yields
high precision numeric results by using exact
fractions, arbitrary precision integers, and
variable precision floating point numbers.
Maxima can plot functions and data in two
and three dimensions
SAGE: free open-source mathematics
software system licensed under the GPL. It
combines the power of many existing open-
source packages into a common Python-
based interface, which grew out of its early
version as Software for Algebra and
Geometry Experimentation.
REDUCE: a system for doing scalar, vector
and matrix algebra by computer, which also
supports arbitrary precision numerical
approximation and interfaces to gnuplot to
provide graphics. It can be used interactively
for simple calculations but also provides a
full programming language, with a syntax
similar to other modern programming
languages. implemented in Standard Lisp
expressed in an intuitive imperative-style
notation called RLISP. The latter is used as a
basis for REDUCE's user-level language
