PASSIVE VOICE

Passive voice is :
1. used when the focus is on the action. It is not
important or not known, however, who or what is
performing the action.
2. The object of an active sentence becomes the subject
of passive verb.
Example: Mary helps the boy (Active)
The boy is helped by Mary (Passive)
3. The subject of an active verb follows (by) in a
passive sentence. The noun that follows by is
called the agent. Mary in the agent.
4. Only transitive verbs ( verbs that can be
followed by an object) are used in the passive. It
is not possible to use intransitive verb (such as
happen, sleep, come, seem) in the passive. (an
accident happened)
5. Perubahan dari kalimat aktif ke pasif sesuai
dengan bentuk tensesnya kalimat aktifnya.

Am/Is/Are + V3
Active: Somebody cleans this room every day.

Passive: This room is cleaned every day by somebody

Am/Is/Are being + V3
Active: Somebody is cleaning this room at the moment

Passive: This room is being cleaned at the moment.

Note:

We use the infinitive after modal verb (will,
can, must, have to, should)
Example:
The big company will open the new hotel
next month.
The new hotel will be opened by the big
company next month.
