SUCCESS FACTORS
• Sam Walton said it best,
“If we work together, we’ll lower the cost
of living for everyone…we’ll give the world
an opportunity to see what it’s like to save
and have a better life.”
Success Factors
• Always looking for better deals from his suppliers

• Passing on the savings to the customers

• Regular store visits

• Associate Opinion Surveys

3 Basic Beliefs & Values

1. Respect for the Individual

2. Service to our Customers

3. Striving for Excellence

10-Foot Rule
During many store visits,
Sam Walton
encouraged associates
to take this pledge with
him: "I promise that
whenever I come within
10 feet of a customer, I
will look him in the eye,
greet him, and ask if I
can help him."
Open Door
• Through our “open door” policy, associates are
free to share suggestions, ideas, and voice
concerns. Whether it’s help with a problem,
guidance or direction, or simply getting an
answer to a question.
• We’re all part of the same family —the Wal-Mart
family. And like family, we care. The open door
has helped solve some of our biggest problems,
and its generated some of our greatest ideas
Servant Leadership
Effective leaders don’t lead from behind
a desk.
Leaders are out on the floor with their
associates. Whether in a Wal-Mart store,
Sam’s Club, Distribution Center, the Home
Office, or at any another facility around the
world, teams can expect their managers to
be there, serving right alongside them. It’s
what makes them a team.
Wal-Mart Cheer
• Give me a W!
Give me an A!
Give me an L!
Give me a squiggly!
Give me an M!
Give me an A!
Give me an R!
Give me a T!
What's that spell?
Wal-Mart!

• Whose Wal-Mart is it?

It's my Wal-Mart!
Sam Walton doing the Cheer !!
• Who's number one?
The customer! Always!
Sundown Rule
Sam Walton created the
Sundown Rule.
It’s really just a twist on “why put
off until tomorrow what you
can do today?” Observing the
Sundown Rule is very simple.
Whether it's a request from a
store across the country or a
call from an associate down
the hall, we do our very best to
give our customers, and each
other, same-day service.
