The number of Filipino workers abroad is estimated to be at around 10

million as 2012 -Commission on Filipino Overseas


Central and Northern Luzon (Ilocos Region) are among the regions which
has the largest number of OFs.
1.8 million or 85 % of Filipino-Americans in Hawaii are of Ilocano descent

Permanent - 4.86 Million or 47 %
Temporary - 4.51 Million or 43 %
Irregular - 1.07 Million 10 %

The top 10 destination countries of Filipinos are US (33%), Saudi Arabia
(15%), Canada (8%), UAE (7%), Malaysia (5%), Australia (4%),Qatar (3%),
Japan (2%), United Kingdom (2%), Kuwait (2%). (See Figure 2). Except for
Qatar, all of these countries were also last years top destination countries.

For the country as a whole, mean share of foreign
remittances in total income is only 11.6%, and for the
Ilocos region 17.9%.

Based on FIES 2009, Ilocos Norte is the province with
the highest share of foreign remittances in total income
(21.7%).
It is also the province with largest share of HHs
receiving foreign remittances (61.4%) by a wide
margin. No other province reports more than 50%.
From 2006 to 2009, remittances grew at 9.6% per
year in nominal terms.
The current estimated remittances to Ilocos
Norte is at 15 18 billion PhP.
