Introduction
Nepal is a land locked country in South Asia bordered to China on north and India on the east, west, and
south.
Media of Nepal include radio, television, newspapers, and the internet.
Nepal has a lively and fast growing media sector.
According to the Press Council Nepal there are 102 daily newspaper and more than 411 weekly newspapers.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Information and Communication, there are more than 326 FM
stations and 41 Television channels in operation.
According to the informations of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), out of the total 9000 journalists,
only 1100 are women, with very few of them in decision-making positions.
In the present switch stage of Nepal, journalists have become progressively victims of physical attacks and
harassment. Women in media are at a greater risk of such attacks in comparison to their male coworkers.
As in other sectors, women participation in Media is negligible. Women have not gained equality with men
in terms of participation and decision making. Top Editorial and management are still entirely male
dominated with only a negligible number of women holding high ranking positions.

Main Theme / Problem Statements
The problems for women journalists is Nepalese media system is one
of the major issues in the region, it is caused by male discrimination
and causes of domestic violence in Nepalese media society.
What difficulties are being faced by the women journalists because of
the male dominant media sector?
Why women journalists are the victim of gender inequality.
How Unjust system is operating in the Nepalese media society?
What are general public reviews about the removal of unfair male
dominant behavior in Nepalese journalism?

Statement of Purpose
To analyze situation of women journalists in the existing
male dominant Region of Nepal.
To identify the causes and effects of Women journalists
harassment problems.
To find the social and family issues against women
journalists.
To analyze the Media NGOs and Government role in
Nepalese media sector.
To identify the role women journalists in the Nepalese
society.
Research Questions

This study is focused on the following questions:

What are the Government policies to overcome the
problems faced by women journalists.
What are the measures of management for the
professional development.
Government role in the Journalism of Nepal regarding
Identity and standards.
How well the Effective monitoring and regulation is being
carried out.
Research Methodology
Descriptive : Systematically describes a situation or area
of interest, factually and accurately.
Interpretive: Data is gathered that generates thick
description & interpretation and that allows theory
building.
Qualitative: Data are collected through participant
observation and interviews.
Detail investigation and records the study area.

Data Sources
Primary : Survey, observation, questionnaire Interest
Group Discussion and interviews

Secondary : Published research and Unpublished
materials, Newspapers , Internet .
Expected Results
This study will help to find situation of domestic violence
against women journalists in Nepal.
This study will help to find problem and their solutions in
Nepalese media.
It would be useful as a guide line for further researchers
in the similar fields
This study will helpful to crate awareness among the
community of Nepal.
Current Situation of Nepalese Media
After the establishment of numerous, private newspapers, FM stations and private television
channels, womens participation in media has been increased but relatively low in
percentage.
In the present context as well, womens participation in decision making level is negligible.
In spite of the change in media environment after democracy, visible improvement in terms
of womens participation and gender mainstreaming in media is yet to be achieved.
No specific policies in any media organization for women journalists resulting the unfriendly
working environment for them.
Top management (or) decision making level is still male dominated and influenced by
patriarchal perception with negligible number of women holding senior positions.
The current reality is, women have become more visible in radio and television as presenters
and announcers but few women are in reporting, editing and in other technical department.

Limitations
In this study only the women journalists have taken as
sources of data.
The study is carried out only for Nepal.
