All of us use water in our home
and make it dirty.
Dirty are you surprised?
Rich in lather, mixed with oil, blank-
brown water that goes down the
drain from sinks, laundries is
dirty. It is called wastewater.

18.1 Water, Our Lifeline
Clean water that is fit for use is
unfortunately not available to all. It
has been reported that more than
billion of fellow human beings have
no access to safe drinking water.

Realising the urgency of the situation on the
world water day on 22 March ,2005 , the
general assenbly of the UNP the period 2005-
2015 as the Internal Decade for action on
water for life . Cleaning of water is a process
of removing pollutants before it enters a water
body or is reused.
WHAT IS SEWAGE ?
SEWAGE IS waste water released by homes
,industries , hospitlas , offices and other users.

WATER FRESENS UP ?
WATER freshens up and eventful journey .
TREATMENT OF
POLLUTED WATER :
It is a process that take place in
waste water treatment plants to
clean polluted water or sewage.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
IT involves physical , chemical and biological
processes . Which removes physical , chemical
and biological impuruites from the waste
water.
Waste water is passed through bars screans
which removes large oblects .
It then goes to grid and sand removal tank , in
which water enters with decreased speed .

Then waster from which floatyable solids like
greece is removed is called clarified water .
Then its further passed to the aerator in which
bacteria consumes aerobic waste .

Limit the types of waste and quantity of waste
produced .
Try to clen the drainage system in your
surrounding .
Enlighten the people ion your surrounding .
Approach municipality or gram panchayat in
case ofa public problem.
BETTER HOUSE KEEPING PRACTICES :
Cocking oils and fats shouldnt be thrown in
the drain .,
Chemicals like paints shouldnt be thrown into
the drains as the kill the water purifying
microbes.
Dont throw solid waste into the drain as they
can block the drain.

SANITATION AND DISEASE
Poor sanitation and
contaminated water can cause
many diseases such as dhierea ,
typhoid , etc.
Human excreta causes water as
well soil pollution .
