MORALITY
AND ETHICS
IN THE
TEACHING
PROFESSION
PHYLOSOPHY OF EDUCATION ACCORDING
TO IMAM AL-GHAZALI
Imam Ghazalis Concept of
Education
Divided into 2 parts :->
Religious
Quran
Sunnah
Secular
Beneficial - knowledge that will
benefit the society.
Neutral - enhance ones beneficial
knowledge but there is nothing
wrong if they are studied.
Harmful - knowledge that are
harmful and haram.
According to Al-Ghazali, "knowledge
exists potentially in the human soul
like the seed in the soil; by learning,
the potential becomes actual.
The child, Al-Ghazali also wrote, "is a
trust (placed by God) in the hands of
his parents, and his innocent heart is
a precious element capable of taking
impressions".
Ghazalis views on Childrens Education
According to Al-Ghazali, "knowledge exists
potentially in the human soul like the seed
in the soil; by learning, the potential
becomes actual.
The child, Al-Ghazali also wrote, "is a trust
(placed by God) in the hands of his parents,
and his innocent heart is a precious
element capable of taking impressions".
Significance of a Teacher
Education (tarbiyyah), Al-Ghazali
states in Ayyuhal-walad is like "the
labour of the farmer, who uproots
the weeds, trims wheat so as it
grows better and gives a better
harvest." Every man needs a
teacher to guide him in the right
direction.
TEACHERS DUTIES ACCORDING TO GHAZALIS.
He is a father for his
pupils.
He must teach for the
sake of God.
He would advise the
student with
carefulness.
Fight the excessive urge
to learn too quickly, and
to overtake his peers.
He would reprimand
with moderation, in
private, discreetly, not
in public.
To blame too much is to
make the pupil too
stubborn in his way of
seeing and doing things.
To make sure that what
he teaches he pursues
in his life.
His own acts do not
contradict what he is
trying to instill.
The teacher is a model
for his pupils NOT ONLY
in academic learning
but also in personality
and moral judgment
Thus, teachers should
practice what they preach
and show kindness and
compassion to a children,
educating them with an
open, smiling face.
Differences between Ghazalis point of view and
current Education System
The differentiation method is not used
in current education system
The National Education Philosophy
stated the aim to create a complete
human being in order to serve for the
nation and country while Imam Ghazali
clearly stated that all work soul
purpose is to devote themselves to
God
Current education system is exam
oriented while Ghazali believes in
technique and skills
C.Edu used many entertainment values
while Ghazali did not encourage the
usage of them.
C.E does not really emphasize on the
moral education clearly while Ghazalis
view believes that this is one of the
main important things in education
system
Relation of Ghazalis view with Al Quran
and Sunnah

And if all the trees on the earth were pens and
the sea (were ink wherewith to write), with
seven seas behind it to add to its (supply), yet
the Words of Allh would not be exhausted.
Verily, Allh is All Mighty, All Wise.
Al Quran (Luqman Verse 27)

Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave
As Sunnah (Hadis Sahih Riwayat
Abu Hurairah)
CHALLENGES HAVE TO FACE BY TEACHERS IN TEACHING
PROFESSION TODAY ESPECIALLY IN MALAYSIA
Teaching is indeed a very challenging job. It is because the welfare
of your students are in your hands and it is your responsibility to
instill knowledge in them. Yet, no matter how demanding the
responsibilities of a teacher are, this is one of the most rewarding
jobs found in the world today. The efforts of teachers do not only
lie in educating children but these also contribute in huge
circumstances such as training future leaders.
Erika Ayala
(The Teaching Profession - A Challenging Yet
Rewarding Job)
The challenges come from:
The parents
1. the parental expectations
2. Parents expect higher to the
achievement of their children
3. Putting the blame on the teachers-
if fails in the test or exam
The students
1.students background-different
thought, different students, different
races, religion, attitude, parents
academicians
2. social diversity
The education system
1.Have to complete the syllabus
2.Have other roles than just being a
teacher (extracurricular Activities)
The surroundings
1.the size of class not comfortable,
large number of students in one class
2.Not have adequate facilities to
make the T & L more effective
3.seasons & weather-too hot-flood-
earthquake
Teaching methods
Have poor teaching standard-Not
well prepared-teachers not really
equipped with that particular subject
Teaching profession
seems like an easy do-
able job. However, few
people know the exact
challenges that the
educators have to faced
in the real world.
SOLUTION
Manage the
classroom
wisely.
Guide students
to the
solution,dont
solve it for them.
Use different
types of
teaching method
to suit all type of
learners.
Be profesional
Have self-
motivation
The authorities
should allow
teachers to focus
on teaching
instead of being
burdened with
non-teaching
Parents should
not interfere in
teachers affair
The administrator
should give award
to the teachers
for being
dedicated to their
work
Good manner
should be
cultivated by
parents in their
children since
young age.
