Brief description
Mr Avinash appointed as General Manager,
administration in Phoenix Industries Ltd.
Because of young age and lack of experience, he
was considered junior executive by his
subordinates.
Administration department had four major subunits :
purchasing, record maintenance, printing and
secretarial services each headed by a manager.
Four managers had combined experience of 80
years and average age of 45 years.
They viewed his appointment with hesitancy and
suspicion and had liking for previous GM.

Avinash started holding weekly departmental
meetings .
There was no response from the managers.
Avinash changed his operational procedures
to increase efficiency of his department.
He even talked individually to the managers
but the problem continued.
Gradually he started receiving complaints
about the services they were providing to
other departments.
He admonished his managers in the weekly
meetings but still same issue.

He told the chief operator to redo the job.
After hearing about what happened, manager
called upon other three mangers for a meeting.
The four discussed their harsh views against
Avinash considering him to be young ,
incompetent and tyrant for the post.
They discussed they could not do anything
against him and decided to search for another
job.
Analysis of problems
Avinash behavior and way of communication
was not effective.
Working environment was not comfortable for
Avinash.
Managers thought that Avinash didnt show
confidence in them and considered him tyrant.
Managers considered him young and
incompetent for the post of GM.
Managers were unresponsive in the meetings
held by Avinash.
They were hesitant to speak with Avinash.
Attachment with former GM.

Suggestions to solve the problems
Avinash should have changed his behavior and
way of communication and showed confidence in
the managers.
He could have changed his working style
according to the managers.
Avinash should have talked about the problem to
the top level management.
The managers should not consider about the age
difference and believe in Avinash qualities
The managers could have used their experience
to create a working and healthy environment.
The mangers should have talked about their
problems and actively participated in the
meetings.
Conclusion
Lack of COORDINATION between managers
and Avinash.
Large age difference between their ages.
Managers were not treating Avinash as GM.
Due to lack of experience, Avinash did not how
to handle the situation.
