HERBAL MEDICINE

Refers to using a plant's seeds, berries, roots,


leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes.
The DOH is advocating the use of the following Ten herbal plants
Lagundi















-Shrub growing wild in vacant lots and waste land.

Asthma,Cough and Fever- boil chopped raw fruits or leaves in 2
glasses of water left for 15 minutes until the water left in
glass.Strain the following dosage of the decoction are given
according to age group.
Dysentery,colds and pain in any parts of the body as in influenza-boil a
handful of leaves and flowers in water to produce a glass full of
decoction 3 times a day.
Skin disease- prepare a decoction of the leaves.Wash and clean
the skin/wound with the decoction.
Headache- crushed leaves maybe applied on the forehead.
Rheumatism,sprain,contusions,insect bites-pound the leaves and
apply on affected part

Aromatic bath for sick patients- prepare leaf decoction
for use in sick and newly delivered patients.
Yerba (Hierba)Buena
A small multi braching aromatic herb.The leaves are small,elliptical
and with toothed margin.
Uses :
For pain in different parts of the body such as hradache,stomach
ache- boil chopped leaves in 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes.Cool
and strain.
Rheumatism,arthritis and headache-crush the fresh leaves and
squeeze and massage sap on painful parts.
Cough and cold-Get about 10 leaves and soak in a glass of water
hot water,drink as a tea. Acts as a expectorant
Swollen gums-Steep 6 gm. Of fresh plant in a glass of boiling
water for 30 minutes use this solution as gargle.
Nausea and fainting-crush leaves and apply at nostrils of patients.

7-12 tbsp of adult dose
Divide the decoction into two parts and drink one part every three
hours.


Toothache Cut fresh plants and squeeze.Soak a piece to cotton in
the sap and insert this in aching tooth cavity.Mouth should rinsed by
gargling salt solution before inserting the cotton.To prepare for the
solution:add 5g.of table salt to one glass of water.
Menstrual and Gas pain-Soak a handful of leaves in a glass of
boiling water drink infusion.It induces menstrual and sweating.
Insect bites-Crush leaves and apply juice on affected part
Pruritis- Boil a plant alone or with eucalyptus in water.Use
decoction as a wash on affected area
Sambong
A plant that reaches 1 to 3 meters in height with rough hairy
leaves
Uses :

Anti-edema,diuretic,anti-urolithiasis-Boil chopped leaves in
water for 15 minutes until one glassful remains.Cool and strain.

Divide decoction into 3 parts drink one part 3 times a day.
Note:Sambong is not a medicine for kidney infection.
Tsaang gubat


A shrub with a small shiny nice looking leaves that grows
in wild and cultivated areas and forest.
Uses:
Diarrhea-boil the following amount of chopped leaves in 2 glasses
of water for 15 minutes or until amount of water goes down to 1
glass.Cool and strain.

7-12 yrs old 6 tbsp 5 tbsp
2-6 yrs old 2 tbsp 3 tbsp

Divide decoction into four parts.Let patient drink one part
every 3 hours.

Stomachache- Wash leaves and chop.Boil chopped
leave in one glass of water for 15 minutes.Cool and
filter/strain and drink.
