Retirements will create 1.8 lakh
vacancies in public sector banks

Mumbai, Sept. 3:
The banking industry will need to hire 9-11 lakh employees over the next five
years, according to a report by Boston Consulting Group.
The report, which includes a survey of about 14,000 customers, 50,000 bank
employees and analysis of data obtained from about 35 banks in the country,
said about half of the hiring will be due to attrition.
The banking sector is expected to grow at approximately 20 per cent over the
next decade and will need major induction of talent, a significant part of which
is to replace vacancies arising due to retirements in public sector banks. At the
current rate of attrition, the industry will need to hire over four lakh more
people.

Retirements in public sector banks will continue to increase and peak by 2017.
In total, 1.8 lakh employees will retire and will be replaced. Depending upon
the productivity growth, the industry will need 2.5-4.5 lakh additional people
for growth in business.

Saurabh Tripathi, Partner & Director, BCG, said: Public sector banks will have
to double the current intake of employees to meet the talent needs of future.

Staff Selection Commission to
advertise 1 lakh posts in 2013-14

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) hopes to advertise about one lakh
posts across the country in 2013-14, its Chairman N K Raghupathy
said here today.
"Nowadays, we are able to fill up almost all the posts that we are
advertising. I do expect that we will be filling up one lakh vacancies
next year. competition is increasing and therefore, the number of
applicatioThe ns we hope to receive is about 1.5 crores," he told
reporters here.
In addition to the advertisements for Government of India
vacancies, SSC is also undertaking some additional recruitment for
government organisations like Food of Corporation of India (FCI)
and Prasar Bharati, he said.
The proposed recruitment for one lakh jobs in the next financial
year include such organisations also, Raghupathy said.
The ratio of recruitment against number of applicants pan-India is
1:102. It means out of 102 candidates, one candidate finally gets
selected.
1.5 lakh job vacancies in
railways to be filled this year

introduced, but the number of employees handling these increased
services has been declining, with 2.1 lakh unfilled vacancies till last
year.

Now, with pressure mounting on better services after the fare hikes,
the Indian Railways has finally announced that it will fill up 1.52 lakh
vacancies this year. Of these 1.52 lakh vacancies, 47,000 will be filled
by the Scheduled Caste and Tribes and the physically challenged.

According to sources, there will be about one lakh retirements this
year and there are 2.4 lakh vacancies in the safety category alone.
The All India Railwaymens Federation have been demanding creation
of new jobs.
A staggering 2.2 crore applications were received for
various position in Railways last year.

While unveiling its annual Zeitgeist list this year, Google India Vice-
President and Managing Director (Sales and Operations) Rajan
