TECHNOLOGY
A mobile phone combines technologies, mainly
telephone, radio, and computer.
There are two types of cell telephone networks:
Analog networks=> older cell phones used analog
networks
Digital networks => All modern phones use digital
networks.
=> Digital networks are also known as second generation

a) Digital networks are also known as second generation

=> The most used digital network is GSM (Global
System for Mobile communication). ). It is used mainly
in Europe and Asia.
=> CDMA (Code-Division Multiple Access) networks are
mainly used in North America. Other countries like
Japan have different 2G technologies.
The radio waves that the mobile phone networks use
are split into different frequencies. The frequency is
measured in Hz.

Four main frequencies are used around the world: 850,
900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. Europe uses 900 and 1800
MHz and North America uses 850 and 1900 MHz.
Today mobile phones work on two, three or four
frequencies. The most advanced phones work on all
frequencies. They are called 'world' phones and can be
used everywhere.

NETWORK
2G ----It was introduced in 1991.It is known as second
generation. 2G phones transmit data at about the same
speed as a 56kbit/s (kilobits per second).
3G ----It was introduced in 2002. 3G phones vary in
speed between about 200kbit/s to 14Mbit/s (megabits
per second).
=> Most smart phones use 3G technology to make them
fast enough to practically use internet and other data
features.

4G -----it introduced after 2010. It estimated as fast as
100Mbit/s to 1Gbit/s (gigabit per second). This would
be as fast as some computer networks that use
ethernet.

SMARTPHONE

Many 21st century mobile phones are smartphones.
These phones can be used for email, browsing the
internet, playing music and games, and many other
functions that computers can perform. They are called
small computer.

Smart phones can send and receive data much faster than older
phones.
Many smart phones introduced after 2010 use 4G technology.

Future of smartphone
The next generation of smartphones are going to be
context-aware, taking advantage of the growing
availability of embedded physical sensors and data
exchange abilities.
all-new applications coming out with the new phones,
one of which is an X-Ray device that reveals
information about any location at which you point
your phone.
