Development
In developing countries NGOs develop through different stages which are
shown below :
Phase I : Most the NGOs are at first organized as an
emergency service providers when some natural
disaster happens like earth quack, flood, land slide,
epidemic etc.
Phase II: Then gradually they take up peoples
welfare oriented development program such as setting
up health post , saving and credit groups for women,
starting literacy classes etc.
Phase III: Gradually they try to empower the
marginalized people and to undertake advocacy role
with the government, power holders in the society and
to promote international solidarity.
Role of NGOs in globalizing world
Per Boutros-Ghali in 1995
Non-governmental organizations are a basic
element in the representation of the modern
world. And their participation in international
organizations is in a way a guarantee of the
latters political legitimacyFrom the stand point
of global democratization, we need the
participation of international public opinion and
the mobilizing powers of non-governmental
organizations.
Role of NGOs contd
1. Increasing role in development
From relief services (logistics management)
to development services (strategic
management)
2. Creating a smaller, but more interdependent,
global community
