presentation we will detail important things such as curriculum,
grading, overall expectations, and more!

Stephens Mission Statement
The staff at Stephens Elementary School believes that all students can
learn. The staff accepts the responsibility of educating each student to
the highest level of academic performance possible, while fostering
positive growth in social and emotional behaviors and attitudes. We
believe that parents, community, and educational staff working together
can create a climate in which all students become lifelong learners.
EVERYBODY LEARNS EVERYDAY!!!!!!

Grading
Classwork and homework will be graded with a check plus, check, or check
minus.
Tests (including math, reading, science, social studies) will be given a percentage
grade. The percentage grades helps you to understand where your child
currently stands in his or her understanding of the concepts taught.
Report cards will have 4 grades:
SP- Satisfactory Progress
AS- Area of Strength
PH-Progressing with Help
AC- Area of Concern

STAR Math/Reading

goals. Parents will be contacted by a letter
if they child falls into this 20%
The STAR provides intervention strategies
for teachers to use and what standards
are being covered.
Students can be moved between tiers if
more or less intervention time is needed.

Reading
Stephens follows the English
Language Arts Common Core
Standards adopted by Kentucky
as our guide for our reading
curriculum
We use the Scott Foresman
Reading Street series as a
supplement for our reading
instruction

The series includes:
Fresh Reads
Leveled Readers
Story Tests
Comprehension Skills
Phonics
and much more!
PBIS
Positive Behavior Intervention Support
PBIS is a framework for decreasing
negative behavior and increasing
positive behavior.

Teachers are teaching school wide
lesson plans to teach students
appropriate behavior in all common
areas.

Each teacher has a hive located
outside their classroom. Classes
can earn a bee for their good
behavior in the cafeteria and by
someone giving them a
compliment in the hallway.
We want students to be proud
of their behavior and show
stinger pride (Bee Safe, Bee
Respectful, Bee Responsible)!!!
Behavior Clip Chart
Student behavior choices are tracked on a clip chart.
Each student has a clip with their name or number
on it. All students begin every day on green in the
middle of the chart. Clips are moved up or down
depending on behavior choices. Clips that are
moved down may be moved back up, if the teacher
sees the students making improved choices. In
addition, once a clip is moved up, it may be moved
down. There may also be classroom
consequences/rewards associated with clip
movement. Students will record their behavior
chart color at the end of each school day in their
planner. Please initial the planner daily and discuss
your childs behavior choices.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a reading
program in which the students
test their reading comprehension
by taking quizzes on books they
have read.
Students read and take quizzes
on their reading level.
To find books on your childs
reading level visit
www.arbookfind.com
Each quarter, students can earn
a free book by earning 5 or
more AR points, through the
Sandy Hull Program.

Arts & Humanities
Arts and Humanities has a 6 day

day for a certain class.
We ask that students pack a pair
of gym shoes everyday, if they
are not wearing them, just in
case we have P.E.
Also, library books should come
to school everyday, so they have
them on library day.
