PROFILE OF THE COMPANY

The Arvind Mafatlal Group has diverse business interests: Textiles,
specialty chemicals, Rubber chemicals and denim.

NOCIL is Indias largest manufacturer of rubber chemicals.

Navin Fluorine is Indias No 1 manufacturer of fluoro chemicals.

Mafatlal Industries, the oldest company in the group, has been a leader
in textiles for over a hundred years-since 1905.
LATE MR. MAFATLAL GAGALBHAI

Mr. Mafatlal Gagalbhai the founder, was
born in 1873, to a weaver of Ahmedabad.
His father, who was neither educated nor
prosperous, made a living by doing odd jobs.

Some of the buyers proved to be Mr. Mafatlal's
benefactors in later years, when he metamorphosed into
an industrialist. They not only provided him with capital,
but also gave it at low rates of interest.
ARWIND MAFATLAL
It was in the 1970's and 1980's, under the
leadership of Mr. Arvind Mafatlal, that the existing
business was consolidated.
The Group also diversified into Information
Technology, Chemicals and the Engineering
Industry. The late 1980's saw the Group further
diversifying into the Financial Service Industry, Gas
Distribution and later into Healthcare business.
From 1995 onwards, the strategy has been to focus
on the Core Competence viz. Textiles and
Chemicals and divest from other businesses.
MR. HRISHIKESH A. MAFATLAL
Mr. Mafatlal has an Honors Degree in Commerce (1975) from the
Sydenham
College, Mumbai. In 1993, he attended the Advanced Management
Programme
(AMP) at the Harvard Business School, USA. He is a Member of the
Managing
Committee of the Mill Owners Association, Mumbai (MOA) and a
Member of the
Governing Council of the N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies
and
Research. He is a Trustee of Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust.
He was a Member on the Board of Governors of IIM Ahmedabad (1995-
2007) and a
Member of the Committee of the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion
Council

HISTORY
Mr. Mafatlal Gagalbhai the founder, was born in 1873, to a weaver of
Ahmedabad.
At the age of 31. Along with Chandulal Mahadevia, a friend, and Arthur
Shorrock, an Englishman who knew some British textile-machinery
manufacturers in Lancashire, he took over the management of a small mill in
Ahmedabad, and named it the Shorrock Mill.
The first mill did extremely well, and Mr. Mafatlal developed an appetite for
expansion. Six years later, in 1912, he bought a mill in neighboring Nadiad for
Rs 6.26 lakhs. The second mill was christened New Shorrock.
in 1916, he bought Jaffer Ali Mill, which was founded by the Nawab of Surat
and renamed it Surat Cotton Spinning & Weaving Mills..
Three years later, Mr. Mafatlal came to Mumbai, taking over the China Mill,
which had been set up by a Parsi family in 1887.



ROLE OF ARWIND MAFATLAL
It was in the 1970's and 1980's, under the leadership of
Mr. Arvind Mafatlal, that the existing business was
consolidated.
The Group also diversified into Information Technology,
Chemicals and the Engineering Industry.
The late 1980's saw the Group further diversifying into

into Healthcare business.
From 1995 onwards, the strategy has been to focus on

MILESTONES
1905 Sets up first textile mill in Ahmedabad.
1912 Purchased a second textile mill in neighbouring Nadiad.
1916 Purchased another mill in Surat
1919 Shifts base to Mumbai with the purchase of a textile mill.
1931 Establishes one more textile mill in Navsari.
1944 The demise of the founder. Shri Navinchandra Mafatlal takes
over the family business.
1945-54 Group invests heavily in cotton textile mills and their
modernization to become the third largest mill owner in India.
Establishes a strong foothold in Mumbai textile market.
1954 Shri Arvind Mafatlal takes over the reigns of the group
companies and starts diversification of the group business
1970s Mafatlals promotes ace cricketers and football players and gains
tremendous mileage
1979 After division of the Mafatlal Group business, the Arvind Mafatlal
Group focuses on textiles, petro chemicals, rubber chemicals
and fluoro chemicals.
1980s and 90s Consolidates its position in textiles, expanding the textile
machinery activities. Shri Hrishikesh Mafatlal takes over the reigns
of the company
1994 Obtains ISO-9001 certification
1996 Joint Venture (50% - 50%) with Burlington Industries, USA called
Mafatlal Burlington Industries Ltd. for manufacturing denim fabric.
2006 Paved a new path to success by acquiring entire stake of
Burlington, USA to set up Mafatlal Denim Ltd.
2009 Mafatlal Denim establishes itself as the largest supplier of denim
material in India, and as a reliable supply chain partner for value
added and fashion denims.
2011 The Demise of the Chairman Emeritus Shri Arvind Mafatlal.
2012 Launches home furnishing range with terry towels and bed
sheets.
2013 Group modernizes its mills once again.

NOCIL LIMITED
The Arvind Mafatlal Group took over MIINDIA Chemicals in 1976
The company has been the largest manufacturer of rubber chemicals in India
for more than two decades. Today, NOCILs customer profile spans the global
market as well.
The companys main manufacturing plant is located in Thane-Belapurs
industrial zone designated for the chemical Industry, about 40 kilometers
away from Mumbai.

MANUFACTURING UNITS AND
TECHNOLOGY
The Company has two manufacturing units at Nadiad and Navsari, which are
vertically integrated composite textile mills.

Nadiad
The Nadiad unit is a large composite textile mill that produces some of the
finest fabrics in a count range of 7s to 140s. It boasts modern equipment like
shuttle less looms and the latest processing equipment. Combi bleaching
range, continuous dyeing range and rotary printing machines.

Navsari
The composite mill facilities for manufacture of denim fabrics comprise Open
End and Ring yarn Spinning, Warping, Dyeing, Weaving, Finishing and
Mercerization.
The latest technological systems, process control and computer systems have
been procured from world famous suppliers like Trutzler, Rieter, Schlafhorst,
Zinzer, Morrison, Picanol and Tsudakoma.

Customers
MILs customers include brands like Marks & Spencer, H&M, Wrangler, Lee,
C&A, Tommy Hilfiger, Next, Marco Polo, Jules, Esprit, Jack & Jones and
domestic brands like Killer, Mufti, Spykar, Allen Solly, ITC Wills, Benetton, West
Side, Pantaloon, Turtle, Raymond, Madura, Arvind brands, Classic Polo,
BHPC, Indian Terrain, Reliance retail, etc.

Exports

The Companys products are exported to the USA, Canada, UK, Germany,
France, Italy, Switzerland, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Thailand, Hong
Kong, Japan, Mauritius, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Bangladesh and several
other African countries.
The Company forecasts fashion trends in Europe, the USA, Japan and India. It
ensures that product designs reflect global customer and brand preferences.
