Rehabilitation is the combined and

coordinated use of the medical, social,


educational and vocational measures for
training and re-training the individuals to the
highest possible level of functional ability. It
includes all measures of reducing the impact
of disability and handicapping conditions and
enables the disabled and handicapped to
achieve social integration.

It is a process that offers the opportunity for
individuals who are impaired, disabled or
handicapped by a mental disorder to reach
their optimal level of independent functioning
in the community.

To provide clinical management & reduce
mortality among children with severe acute
malnutrition, particularly among those with
medical complications.

to the child slipping into severe acute
malnutrition.

The government of India provides a strong
legal framework for empowerment of persons
with disabilities through the RCI act 1992;
persons with disabilities act, 1995; and
National Trust for welfare of persons with
Autism, Cerebral palsy, Mental retardation
and Multiple Disabilities act, 1999.

Objectives of the council are
To regulate training policies and programs in
field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
To bring about standardization of training
courses for rehabilitation professionals/
personnel dealing with persons with disabilities.
To prescribe minimum standards of education
and training in the field of rehabilitation
uniformly throughout the country.

To regulate these standards in all training
institutions uniformly throughout the country.
To recognize foreign degrees/ diploma/
certificates in the field of rehabilitation awarded
by universities/ institutions on reciprocal basis.
To maintain Central Rehabilitation Register
To collect information regarding education and
training from institutions in India and abroad.
To encourage rehabilitation education and
research.
