Organism and Environment

Name: Tan Chai Shiuan (29)
Chee Hui Fen (7)

Class: 2A2

Band: Band 6

Biodiversity
Classification of animals :

Vertebrates - with a backbone
- fish
- birds
- mammals
- reptiles
- amphibians

Invertebrates - without a backbone

Type of Vertebrates

Fish Mammal

Bird

Reptile Amphibian

Classification of Plant :

Flowering Plants - produces flowers

Monocotyledons
- produces seeds with 1 cotyledons in each seed
- fibrous roots
- soft stems, not woody
- parallel veins leaves

Dicotyledons
- produce seeds with 2 cotyledons in each seed
- tap root
- woody stem
- net veins leaves

Non-flowering Plants - do not produces flowers

Interaction between Living Organism and
Environment
Organisms cannot live alone. They interact with each
other in any ways, such as
prey-predator
symbiosis - commensalism
- mutualism
- parasitism
competiton
Prey-predator

A predator is an organism that kills and
eats another organism.

A prey is the organism that is eaten.

A prey usually has the ability to run away a from a predator.
Symbiosis
a) Commensalism
a relationship between 2 organisms in which one organism
(the commensal) benefits from another (the host) without
damaging the host

b) Mutualism
is an interactions between 2 different organism that benefits
its both

c) Parasitism
is a relationship between organism in which one benefits
while the other is harmed

Importance of Interaction between Living
Organism and Environment
maintain the food web
controls the population of living organism
maintain a balanced ecosystem
allows the living organism to protect each other
provides the Earth with natural resources

Biological Control
A method of controlling a certain population of
orgaism.

Pests are living organism that are harmful to us.
People have tried using pesticides, poisons and other
chemical to get rid of pests.

In biological control, a natural enemy of a pests,
called the biological control agent is use to kill the
pests.

Advantages and Disadvantage of Biological
Control in Agriculture
Advantages
does not effect the health of humans
pest is not resistant to the predators
does not affect or kill other organism
does not pollute the environment
it is cheaper

Disadvantages

upset the balance of thet particular ecosystem

difficult to manage the natural enemies

biologocal control take a long time to work comparad to using
pesticides

populations be affected cause a wrong choice of natural
enemies

a new problem is created cause wrong choice of natural
enemies
Photosythesis
is the process in which green plants use light to
produce food

The Role of Photosynthesis
a) Enable green plants to make their own food.

b) Regulate and maintain carbon dioxide content in the
atmosphere.

c) Increase oxygen content in the atmosphere.

d) Maintain a balanced ecosystem.

e) Ensure that the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide remain
at constant levels in the air through the carbon and oxygen
cycles.
Importance of Photosynthesis in
Maintaining a Balanced Ecosystem
Carbon Dioxide and Photosynthesis
plant obtain energy from sunlight and use it to convert carbon
dioxide into energy - rich carbohydrates like glucose

Oxygen and Life on Earth
released as a waste product of phosynthesis is a vital resource
for respirations
Glucose and Life on Earth
plant use some of the glucose produce from carbon dioxide
and water during photosynthesis for growth and reproduction
during their life
