2 Chile is a country vulnerable to Climate Change Temperature rises are expected between 2C and 4C across the country, at the end of the century. Rainfall patterns will change from north to south , resulting in water shortage especially in the central part of the country where 70% of the total population is living and water abundance in the southern part of Chile.
Glaciers, which act as strategic water reserves, will continue to retreat.
Snow storage capacity in the mountain areas will decrease because of increasing temperature.
2006: The Chilean government defines its National Strategy for Climate Change for three strategic axes
Public Policy for Climate Change in Chile 2008: The Chilean government published its National Action Plan for Climate Change:2008-2012 which, among others, identified 7 priority areas for sectorial adaptation plans: Water resources Biodiversity Agriculture &Forestry Energy Fisheries and aquaculture Health Infrastructure Coastal areas Mitigation
Adaptation

The Climate Change Office of the MMA is in charge of the development of the National Plans and related activities for the three strategic Climate Change axes: mitigation adaptation capacity building, including climate finance mobilization and the monitoring and evaluation of the respective actions and initiatives. 2010: Creation of the Ministry of Environment (MMA) and its Climate Change Office (CCO) 6 work areas of the CCO 6 Climate Finance Opportunities for NAMAs*
