Fellowship Program
and the different
specializations available
today.

Fellowship, by itself, means a period
of medical training, where a doctor or
a physician would undertake on
successful completion of the residency
programs.
The duration of the program may vary
according to the specializations and
educational qualifications. It may vary
from a minimum period of one month to
a maximum of twelve months (i.e., one
year).

The doctors or the physicians who undergo
the fellowships would be called as the
Fellows. The Fellows are renowned as
the acting or attending physicians or the
consultant physicians in their area of
expertise. Different specializations for the
Fellowship Programs are available across
different parts of the world.

These programs offer an excellent
opportunity for the fellows or doctors to
excavate further into the area of study that
better suits their requirements. Unlike
graduate level programs in medicine deal
with the traditional structured curriculum,
the fellowship program endeavor a great
degree of independence in designing a project
of any specialization.

It is to be noted that the Fellowship
programs value the independence and
leadership, along with the value of passion
for an area of study or area of expertise.
The students who have successfully
completed the MBBS or the Doctor of
Medicine (MD) can pursue the
fellowship program in a relevant
specialization for a minimum duration of
six months or more.


It is mandatory for a student to get
registered or licensed with the
Medical Council of the respective
country to get enrolled for a
fellowship program. The students
with postgraduate degree in medicine
can also apply for the fellowship
program but with shorter duration
depending upon the specialization.
Many residents make a decision on a
subspecialty career that is solely
dependent upon the subspecialty
hospital experience or related to an
exciting role model.
Individuals should ensure that
outpatient experience in the
subspecialty is attained regularly that
interests them before taking a serious
decision on the career.

Many professionals who get enrolled into
the Residency Programs in the US for the
Fellowship programs get disappointed by
the services.

It is possible to get enrolled into a
fellowship training program after a few
years of practicing general medicine. This
