this decision.
Solved by using weighted factor matrix

Select and
Purchase
the
software
package
Proposal A Proposal B
Factor Weight Raw Score Weighted Score Raw Score Weighted Score
Response time 10 5 50 4 40
Compatibility 9 3 27 5 45
Reputation and
experience
5 3 15 5 25
Ability to deliver on
schedule
7 4 28 5 35
Range of capabilities 15 4 60 4 60
Modularity 12 4 48 3 36
User friendliness 15 4 60 3 45
Support database 9 2 18 5 45
Support networking 3 2 6 5 15
Vendor support 15 4 60 3 45
Total 100 372 391
The result showed that Proposal B is higher than Proposal A in term of performance index
which suggest that Proposal B can perform better as compared to Proposal A.
Assume the cost of Proposal A is RM 150,000 and cost of Proposal B is RM
100,000

Proposal A = 372 / 150,000 = 2.48 unit of performance per RM1000
Proposal B = 391/ 190,000= 2.06 unit of performance per RM1000
After taking cost into consideration which represent that Proposal A has
better performance index to cost ratio as compared to Proposal B.
Properly tested by the organization of
the new system
Packaged software need more time in
testing the viability of new software in
the system of the organization.
Maintenance need to be done
regularly
Advantage of packaged software is

software
package
Advantages
Implemented

expensive
Available to handle
almost all types of
industrial, service
and governmental
activity
Installed in relatively
short time
Disadvantages
The function of the
ready made-
software is
incomplete
the software that
already exist some
how did not
consistent with the
system of the
company
The system
sometimes is
obsolete version of
the software
