The group is benefited by the expertise of different teachers. In western countries, team teaching is no more an innovation as it has been used for the last twenty- five years to prove the quality of instruction but in our country it is at its initial stage. DEFINITION Team teaching has been defined as a type of instructional organization, involving teaching personnel and the students assigned to them, in which two or more teachers are given responsibility working together, for all or significant part of the instruction of the same group of students. Another educationist defined team teaching as an arrangement whereby two or more teachers, with or without teacher aides cooperatively plan, instruct, and evaluate one or more class groups in an appropriate instructional space and given length of time so as to take advantage of the special competencies of the team members. Carlo-Olson has given a comprehensive definition of team teaching, according to him, team teaching may be defined as An instructional situation where two or more teachers possessing complimentary teaching skills cooperatively plan and implement the instruction for a single group of students using flexible scheduling and grouping techniques to meet the particular instruction. ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF TEAM TEACHING One of the most interesting and potentially significant developments in American education was the meteoric rise during the late 1950s of an organizational structure known as team teaching. Team teaching emerged as a very successful method of utilizing teachers expertise to improve the quality of the need of instruction in fifties. Harvard University was the first institution which initiated an internship plan in 1955. Another educator who made valuable contribution for the success of team teaching was J. Leyond Trump who served as Director of the Commission on the experimental study. Team teaching was not only confined to educational institution but its use was extended to armed forces for training purpose during the Second World War. Team teaching developed at a high speed in seventies. All institutions use team teaching in one or the other way.
