ASIA

Asia is the largest continent in the world in both, area and population, constituting nearly
one-third of the landmass, lying entirely north of the equator except for some Southeast
Asian islands. It is connected to Africa by the Isthmus of Suez and borders Europe (part of
the same landmass) along the Ural Mountains and across the Caspian Sea.

Area: about 49 700,000 km. It covers about 30 percent of Earth's total land area.
Population: more than 4 billion human inhabitants (4.3 billion in 2013), about 60 percent of
the world's population. 1,33 billion of these people live in China. Seven out of ten of the
most populated countries are in Asia (2010).
Highest Point: Sagarmatha (Chomolungma; known as Mount Everest) 8,848m (29,028 ft)
Nepal.
Largest Lake: Caspian Sea (salt lake) 371 000 km (143 250 sq mi),
Ozero Baykal, Lake Baikal 31 500 km in Siberia is the world's largest freshwater lake by
volume.
Longest River: Yangtze (Yngz Jiang, or Chang Jiang (simplified Chinese: ) China,
6,380 km (3,964 mi).

Languages of Asia: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Russian, Thai, Turkic,
Vietnamese and other.

FACTS ABOUT MALAYSIA
Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country. Along with the many
indigenous cultures, substantial influences from Chinese, Indian, Persian, Arabic,
and British cultures have taken place.
Malaysia shares land borders with Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei, and is linked to
Singapore by a causeway and bridge.
Malaysia is made up of two main landmasses, Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian
Borneo, they are separated by the South China Sea.
The official language of Malaysia is Malaysian. English remains a widely used
second language, and there are also many other indigenous languages spoken.
The largest city and capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia has a population of over 29 million people (29,628,392) as of July 2013.
The Petronas Towers are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur. They were the tallest
buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and are still regarded as the worlds
tallest 'twin' buildings.
The national day of Malaysia is called Hari Merdeka. It occurs on August 31 each
year to celebrate Malaysia's independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
MALAYSIA
The currency of Malaysia is called the Ringgit.
Mount Kinabalu in the Crocker Ranges, is the tallest mountain in
Malaysia at 4,095 m (13,436 ft) above sea level.
The world's largest discovered cave chamber (single room) is the
Sarawak Chamber, in the Gunung Mulu National Park, Malaysia.
There are a total of 28 national parks in Malaysia.
The national animal of Malaysia is the endangered Malayan tiger.
Traditional Malaysian artworks include caved wooden masks,
handwoven baskets, and silverworks.
The national drink of Malaysia is a hot milk tea called Teh tari, and the
national dish is called Nasi lemak, it is a fragrant rice dish cooked in
coconut milk, often served wrapped in a banana leaf, and usually eaten
for breakfast.
Popular sports played in Malaysia include football, badminton, field
hockey, bowls, tennis, squash, martial arts, sailing, horse riding, and
skateboarding.


VIETNAM
official name of Vietnam is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Two rivers in Vietnam, the Mekong in the south and the Red river in the north of
the country reach the sea spread over huge swampy delta plains. The lands in
these areas are very fertile, ideal for growing rice and other crops and home to the
majority of the country's population.
Vietnam shares a land border with China to the north, Cambodia and Laos to the
west.
There are over 92 million people living in Vietnam (92,477,857) as of July 2013.
The capital city of Vietnam is Hanoi, with an estimated population of just under 6.5
million it is the second largest city in Vietnam. The largest city is Ho Chi Minh City
which had a population of just under 7.5 million in 2010.
The currency of Vietnam is called the dong.
Traditional culture of Vietnam involves focusing on humanity (nhn nghia) and
harmony (ha), with family and the community valued highly.
The Vietnamese worship a number of cultural symbols, such as the Vietnamese
dragon (mythical holy dragon), the lac (mythical holy bird), the turtle and
the horse.


Vietnam is the largest exporter of cashew nuts
and black pepper in the world with one-third of
the global production. The country is also the
second largest exporter of rice behind Thailand.
The cuisine of Vietnam traditionally combines 5
fundamental taste elements including: spicy
(metal), sour (wood), bitter (fire), salty (water)
and sweet (earth).
Vietnamese food is a blend of Chinese and Thai
styles and is considered one of the healthiest
cuisines in the world with its combination of fresh
ingredients like fresh herbs, seafoods, fruits and
vegetables along with fish sauce, shrimp paste,
soy sauce and rice.
MADAGASCAR
The official name of Madagascar is the Republic of Madagascar.
Madagascar is an island country, off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean.
Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world.
From 1895 France governed Madagascar. In 1960, the country became a fully
independent country called the Malagasy Republic. It became the Democratic
Republic of Madagascar in 1975 and the Republic of Madagascar in 1993.
The capital of Madagascar is Antananarivo, home to over 2 million people.
The official languages of Madagascar are Malagasy and French.
Madagascar is home to over 22 million people (22,599,098) as of July 2013.
The highest mountain in Madagascar is Maromokotro at 2876 m (9436 ft).
Madagascar is classed as one of the worlds 17 megadiverse countries that are
considered to be home to the majority of the worlds biodiversity. Over 70% of the
250,000 wildlife species found in Madagascar are found nowhere else in the world.
While 90% of the estimated 14,000 plants native to Madagascar are also found
nowhere else.


The lemur is only found in the wild in Madagascar. As of 2012, there were 103
living species of lemur in Madagascar, including sub-species. The majority of these
are classified as rare or endangered. Several species of lemur such as the giant
lemur have become extinct in the past, mainly due to extensive deforestation.
The unique ecology of Madagascar has led some scientists to refer to the country
as the "eighth continent" of the world.
Madagascar has the 3rd largest coral reef system in the world, the Toliara coral
reef, off the south-western coast.
Madagascar is one of the worlds main suppliers of vanilla and cloves, while coffee,
lychees and shrimp are also important agriculturally. The country currently
provides half of the world's supply of sapphires and produces a number of other
precious and semi-precious stones.

KENYA
Kenya is located in East Africa, on the equator.
In 2012, the population of Kenya was estimated to be around 43 million.
Kenya is officially known as the Republic of Kenya.
The capital and largest city is Nairobi. Mombasa is the second largest city.
The two official languages in Kenya are English and Swahili, although there are dozens of
other languages spoken in various parts of the country.
Kenya shares Lake Victoria, the world's second largest fresh water lake, with Tanzania and
Uganda.
Kenya features many national parks and wildlife reserves, with safaris being a popular activity
for visitors.
Agriculture is important to Kenya's economy, especially tea, coffee and flowers.
Large animals such as lions, buffalo, leopards, elephants and rhinoceros are present in Kenya.
In Kenya they drive on the left-hand side of the road.
Kenya is named after Mt Kenya, the tallest mountain in the country (5,199 metres,
17,057 feet).
Kenya gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1963.
Hydroelectricity is the largest contributor to Kenya's electricity supply.
Kenya is a developing country and half of the population live in poverty.
In terms of sports, Kenya is perhaps best known for its middle distance and long distance
runners, with the country frequently producing Olympic champions.
