SCHEME AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

DISABILITY
Consequence of an impairment that may be physical,
cognitive, mental ,sensory ,emotional ,
developmental, or some combination of these.
Disabled children could be,
Orthopedically handicapped (OH)
Mentally retarded (MR)
Mental illness (MI)
Visually impaired (VI)
Hearing impaired (HI)
Cerebral palsied (CP)

IEDC: Integrated Education for
Disabled Children
A centrally sponsored scheme run by
the Directorate of Education
It was introduced in 1976-1977
Presently all the school are covered
under this scheme.
Criterion to identify disabled
children

Children suffering from not less than 40%
of any disability
It has to be certified by a medical authority
AIM OF IEDC
To provide educational opportunities in
common school
To facilitate their retention in the school
system
To integrate them with the common school
Reasons to Integrate an IED child
with common school?

It is the most effective and economical way of
providing,
Educational opportunities
Communication skill
Daily living skills
Social efficiency etc.

Benefits of the scheme to the child
Books and stationary allowance
Uniform allowance
Transport allowance
Escort allowance - (for severely handicapped)
Reader allowance - (for blind children)
Actual cost of equipments
Can you help them?
You should help them,

in reading and writing

Finding answers

In doing their needs

In co curricular activities etc.

An Act of Kindness
Role of students to develop
their social efficiency

Realize their disabilities.
Be respectful.
Consider them as a friend
Ask if they have any difficulty in their work.
Talk with them.


Donts

Never talk down to them in a
patronizing fashion.
Dont use labels or offensive terms.
Be a good friend to the Disabled
