This project was carried out to find the optimized use of Helical baffle plate design (Helixchangers) for maximum thermal efficiency and waste reduction. Based on comprehensive CFD simulations, lower pressure drop can lead to design a heat exchanger with higher thermal efficiency.
The reduction of fouling can increase the life of the heat exchanger and also give higher thermal efficiency when Helixchangers are used.
Different helix angel for the baffles are attempted to find the optimum angle where the maximum heat transfer take place. APPLICATION OF HELICAL BAFFLES IN HEAT EXCHANGERS fouling HELICAL BAFFEL The helical baffles are subjected to different five different angles.
FORMULA The defining equation for any heat exchanger is:
q = U X A X T
where: q is the heat transfer rate, BTU/hr, U is the overall heat transfer coefficient, BTU/hr-ft 2 - F, A is the heat transfer surface area, ft 2 , and T is the fluid temperature difference, F.
FORMULA 2
Heat transferred to or from a surface by convection: Q = h x A x T Where, Q = Heat (Watts) h = Heat transfer coefficient (W / (m2 K))(1 to 30 = Free convection - gases, 10 to 100 = Forced convection - gases) A = Exposed surface area (m2) T = Surface Temperature - Ambient (Kelvin) FORMULA - 3 Heat transfer is given by
Where m is the mass, C is the specific heat and T is the temperature difference in K.
o There are three types of Heat transfer Conduction Convection Radiation.
FORMULA Heat transfer (Q) by Conduction formula is given by
Where, k is the thermal conductivity of the material, A is the cross sectional area, T Hot is the higher temperature, T Cold is the cooler temperature, t is the time taken, d is the thickness of the material. Heat transfer by Convection is given by
Where H c is the heat transfer coefficient, The Heat transfer by radiation is given by
Here is the Stefan Boltzmann Constant. Heat transfer is usually expressed in Joules. Heat transfer formula is used in problems to find the heat transfer taking place for any given material
