Location & Summary

The Intrepid Museum,

located at Pier 86, is
a refurbished air
craft carrier built
during World War II
that now houses
exhibits on flight,
space, and air travel.
History
 The Intrepid was commissioned in 1943 and
sent to fight in the Pacific.
 After the war, the Intrepid helped with the
Space Race as the primary recovery vessel
for Mercury and Gemini missions.
 The ship served three tours of duty in
Vietnam.
 Before decommissioning, the Intrepid served
as an anti-submarine ship for NATO in the
North Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Baltic
Seas.

opportunity to learn
what it would have
been like to be a
sailor, pilot, or

Deck, which includes the
Island and Navigation Bridge.
 Other spaces include
berthing, the kitchen, the
fo’s’cle, and others.
Fun Fact: In order to
feed dinner to the 3,388
men aboard, 3.5 tons of
food was needed!
