Primary Economic Activity
These are the most basic economic activities.
They involve the production of foods and the
extraction of resources.
Examples: growing crops, raising livestock, grazing,
fishing, logging and mining.
The smaller the portion of people involved in primary
economic activities, the great the likelihood the
country's economy is more developed.
Farming
30% of the country's GDP
60% of the total labor force involved
Overwhelming impact on major macroeconomic
objectives like employment generation, poverty alleviation,
human resources development and food security
Rice, Jute, Sugarcane, Potato, Pulses, Wheat, Tea and
Tobacco are the principal crops
Bangladesh is the largest producer of Worlds best Jute
Problems of Farming
Natural Calamities like flood, drought, cyclone etc
Through Cooperatives the use of modern machinery is
being used
Lack of warehouse and storage
Over dependence on Farming rather then other forms
of Primary Economic activity
Lack of proper utilities and training
Undisputed Loan facility
Social Class diversity
Fishing
Around 1.3 million people are directly employed in
Fisheries
3.3 % contribution on Total GDP
The sectors include open water bodies like river, canal,
lakes etc and closed water bodies like pond and flood
control polders
About 90% of animal protein in our diet comes from
fish
New employment opportunities by making fishing nets
and other fishing materials
Many NGOs are providing Training and Loan facilities
for Fisheries.
Major part of fisheries product are being exported to
Foreign Countries

Livestock
Raring animals like cow, buffalo, goat and sheep
Farming Chickens are also sub-sector of Livestock
Products like milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs etc are
extracted from animals
Leathers of such animals are also sold and exported in
high amount
Nutrient products are more supplied from livestock's

Mining
Mining is rarely found in Bangladesh
Coal mining is mostly found in Bangladesh among other
forms of mining
It is notable that the coal of Bangladesh is considered
to be high quality due to its high level of hit generation
capacity
The Bangladesh government will receive an estimated
$245 million annually in taxes and royalties at an annual
production of 15 million tones and based on a coal price of
$50 per tone
At present two major mines are being developed by
Petrobangla to extract about 1 million tons of coal and
1.65 million tons of granite respectively from the
Barapukuria Coal Mine and Madhyapara Hard Rock Mine
