I am sure you have
heard time and
again that
cleanliness is next
to Godliness. Alas,
things are often
different when it
comes to putting this
into practice.

WHY SWACHH BHARAT
ABHI YAN

Mahatma Gandhi had rightly said, Sanitation is more
important than Independence. He was aware of the
pathetic situation of Indian rural people at that time and
he dreamt of a clean India where he emphasised on
cleanliness and sanitation as an integral part of living.
Unfortunately, we have completed 67 years of
independence and we have only about 30% of the rural
households with access to toilets.

Swachh Bharat or
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
(Campaign Clean India)
is a national level
campaign by the
Government of India
covering 4041 statutory

infrastructure of the
country.
THE GREAT BEGI NNI NG
This campaign was officially launched on 2
October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself wielded
broom and cleaned a road. The campaign is
India's biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3
million government employees and schools
and colleges students of India participated in
this event

SWACHH BHARAT
ABHI YAN LAUNCHI NG
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was
launched by Prime Minister
of India Narendra Modi on 2
Oct 2014, Gandhi Jayanti.
On this day, Modi addressed
the citizens of India in a
public gathering held at
Rajpath, India and asked
everyone to join this
campaign.[6] Later on this
day, Modi himself swept a
pavement at Valmiki Basti, a
colony of sanitation workers,
near Rajpath.
CLEAN I NDI A A GREAT

the vision of 'clean India' by 2nd

Mahatma Gandhi and is expected to
cost over INR62000 crore (US$10
billion). The campaign was described
as "beyond politics" and "inspired by
patriotism".

OUR PRI ME MI NI STER
VI SI ON TO FUTURE I NDI A
I urge every one of you to
devote at least hundred
hours every year, that is
two hours every week
towards cleanliness.
We cant let India remain
unclean any longer. On 2nd
October I myself will set out
with a broom and
contribute towards this
pious task. Let us walk
shoulder to shoulder in our
quest to create a Clean
India!
WHAT I S MODI S OPI NI ON?
Modi has directly linked the Clean India movement with
the economic activity of the nation. This mission,
according to him, can contribute to GDP growth,
provide a source of employment and reduce health
costs, thereby connecting to an economic activity.
Cleanliness is no doubt connected to the tourism and
global interests of the country as a whole. India is
already a known hub in the world tourist map. It is high
time now that Indias top 50 tourist destinations display
high class levels of hygiene and cleanliness so as to
change the nations global perception.
