The word wildlife is often used to mean animals found in the wild,
it actually includes all the organisms living in natural habitats.
From the environmental point of view, each species plays its
own role in an ecosystem.
It is also linked to several others through food chains and other
relation.
Destroying or depleting population of one species can have
an impact on several others
Biodiversity means diversity in life forms or the variety of
species.
The greater the variety, the faster is the pace of evolution.
Also, a greater variety means a richer bank of genetic
material.

The largest scale killing of animals for food,

trade and pleasure is one of the many causes for
the depletion of wildlife.
Deforestation destroys the habitat of animals, endangering
their survival.
A forest many get flood with the construction of a large
dam
it may get fragmented by the construction of a road or
railway through it, which may then lead to its being
destroyed further.
The introduction of exotic species affects native species.
Thus, their numbers grow unchecked, and they deprive the
native species of food and space.
for example, when rabbits were introduced into Australia
and the spotted deer into the Andaman and Nicobar
islands.

India is one of the 17 countries of the world that are known

for their biodiversity.
The region's rich and diverse wildlife is preserved in 89
national parks, 18 Bio reserves and 400+ wildlife sanctuaries
across the country.
India has some of the most bio-diverse regions of the
world and hosts three of the worlds 34 biodiversity
hotspots that is the Western Ghats, the Eastern
Himalayas and Indo- Burma
India, lying within the Indo- malaya eco -zone, is home to
about 7.6% of all mammalian, 12.6% of avian, 6.2% of
reptilian, and 6.0% of flowering plant species

India is a land for large number of predator animals.

Among them is tiger.
Tigers are killed by hunters for there skin, nails and teeth.
The population of tiger is estimated at 1706 census of 2011

TABLE NO.01

ROYAL BENGAL TIGER AT SUNDERBANS

Leopards show a great diversity in coat color and rosettes patterns.

THE INDIAN leopard is found in parts of central and
northern India and surrounding of Bangladesh.

Indian leopards are under threat due to rampant

poaching for its skin and villagers killing it whenever a
leopard strays in areas of human settlements.
In the past six years, more than 60 leopards have been
killed by villagers when they treaded into their territory.
Under the Indian Wildlife
Protection Act , hunting or
attacking the leopard is
illegal as it is an endangered
species. It is a punishable
offence with a minimum
sentence of up to three
years of imprisonment or a
fine of Rs.10,000.

Indias elephant population is teetering on the brink of

extinction because of rampant poaching and brutal
training method.

Elephants are almost extinct in India. we have less than

20,000 elephants,
India was losing 10 per cent of its tusker population
every year to ivory poachers.
The worst areas of
cruelty are Kerala
[in southern India]
and the northeast
Kerala kills one
elephant a week.

EXTINCTION OF BIRDS
15 bird species in India critically endangered.
migratory wetland species: Baers Pochard,
Siberian Crane and Spoon-billed Sandpiper;
non-migratory wetland species: White-bellied
Heron;
grassland species: Bengal Florican, Great
Indian Bustard, Jerdons Courser and
Sociable Lapwing;
forest species: Forest Owlet and scavengers:
Indian Vulture, Red-headed Vulture, Whitebacked Vulture and Slender-billed Vulture.
Himalayan Quail and Pink-headed Duck .
India has lost 99.9 per cent of the oriental white
- rumped vultures over the past 15 years and
96.8 per cent of long-billed vultures and
slender-billed vultures.
A lot of birds die every summer due
to scarcity of water.

Deforestation should be stopped.

Take the action against rampant poacher
on wild animals.
Business on animal parts such as skin,
tuskers, teeth etc. shouldnt tolerated and
punish the people who indulge in this act.
Place water pots for thirsty birds in
Terraces, Compound wall and Balconies
during summer season.
Some special projects has been launched
to protect endangered species.
Training of elephants is the most brutal,
primitive and stupid in the whole world,
should be stopped.
Villagers should be trained to prevent the
killing of leopards.
Chemical exploiting into river and poisons
gas into air from factories should be
stopped.
