Vehicle Tracking & Ticketing System Using RFID

 MANUAL TICKETING
• Frequency of getting errors and mismatch in entries was
a serious problem

 USING BARCODES
• Major problem of line-of-sight operation
• Less expensive but less secure

 BIOMETRIC DEVICES
• High cost of implementation
• Dependent on physiological characteristics that is not fixed

 SMART LABELS
• Less secure compared to RFID technique

 Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic

identification
method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using
devices called RFID tags or transponders.
 Technology that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or
electrostatic coupling in the radio frequency(RF) portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object,
animal or person.
 An alternative to bar code
 Contactless Smart Cards

The primary benefits of RFID technology over standard

bar-coding are:
• Information stored on the tag can be updated on
demand
• Huge data storage capacity
• Small surface area requirement
• Instantaneous data identification
• Data collection from multiple items
• Longer read range : line-of-sight not required
• Greater resistance to scratches and physical abuse
• Greater accuracy in data retrieval and reduced error 4

 Tags will be embedded into the vehicle.

 Reader will send electromagnetic waves to the tag.

 Power will be drawn by the tag from these waves

 Tag will return back vehicle information

 Stored in READER memory

 Reader will demodulate & convert into digital data

 Tags will be attached to students ID card

 Antenna will sense the tag

 Information will be fed into the reader

 Reader will decode these data

 Information will be send to the host system by reader.

TYPES OF RFID
READER
 Agile Reader
• One that can read tags operating at different frequencies.

 Dumb reader
• One that read only one type of tag i.e. of same frequency.
• Has very little computing power

 Intelligent reader
• Run on different protocols
• Can filter data
• Can run application

passive) for collecting data,
tag-to tag communication etc.

13
 Tag antenna

• Conductive element that enables the tag to send or

receive data

 Reader antenna

• Transfers information to and fro from tag antenna

14
Vehicle Tracking & Ticketing System Using RFID

 Low frequency (125-134KHz)

• Used for shorter read range

 High frequency (13.56MHz)

• Used for longer read range

 Ultra high frequency (866-915MHz)

• Used for greater read distance but more sensitive

to environment factor
 Microwave frequency(2.45-5.8GHz)

The resource requirement can be parted into three

sections:

 RFID SECTION
(main focus on the tools required for tracking the
various tags used)

RFID tag enabled ID card

• The tag will carry the information about the client
and will form the basic input of the system

 RFID writer
• It will write the details about the client onto the
tag

RFID reader
• It will read the details about the client from the
tag
18

COMPUTER SECTION
(Deals with the systems required for the implementation of
the VTTS)

 Computer terminal
• An electronic hardware device that enables a computer
to receive or deliver data

LAN connectivity
•Local area network

Computer server
•It is a computer system used for maintaining the data
base

 SOFTWARES AND DEVELOPMENT TOOLS

(Deals with design tools for the purpose of design and
implementation)

Front-end tools
• Provides interactive interface to the user
• Allows data to be entered into a server

 Back-end tools
• Provides network that have been requested by client

Crystal reports
• Helps users to create flexible, high fidelity reports
