Chinese Scholarship Council

It is the competent authority to authorize Chinese universities to grant


scholarships for undergraduate , graduate and Postgraduate students.
Various types of scholarships
1. Chinese government scholarships
2. Chinese local government scholarships
3. University scholarships
4. Enterprise scholarships
1. Chinese government scholarships
Language of instruction
All undergraduate scholarships are taught in Chinese language.
All Grduate and non degree programs are also offered in chinese language,
certain universities could offer programs in english.

If program is in Chinese language, students have to take one year language


training course.
Scholarship Funding
Chinese government scholarships are fully funded.
They cover;
A fee waiver of registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic
textbooks.
Cost of experiments or internships beyond the program curricular is at students
own expense.
Cost of books or learning materials other than required basic textbooks is at
students own expense.
Free on-campus dormitory accommodation.
A living allowance at the following rates( per month).
undergraduates: CNY 1,400;
masters students & general scholars: CNY 1,700;
doctoral students & senior scholars: CNY 2,000.
One-off settlement subsidy:
CNY 1,000 for new students who will study in China for less than one academic
year;
CNY 1,500 for new students who will study in China for one academic year or
above.

Scheme for International Students in China.
One-off inter-city travel reimbursement:
A hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be
reimbursed for scholarship students traveling.
2 Chinese local government scholarships
These scholarships are funded by provincial government and municipalities.
Some provinces release funds to designated universities for foreign students
scholarships.
What they cover?
It differs university to university.
3 University scholarships
These scholarships are funded by universities themselves, irrespective of
government funding.
What they cover?
It also differs university to university.

Enterprise scholarships
These scholarships are funded by any industry, company etc.
These scholarships may have selected and limited programs.
What they cover?
It depends on industry funding, vary industry to industry and university to
university.

When these scholarships are announced?

Every year most of universities announce scholarships from January to


march, some announce before January may be in December.
Deadline for applications for CGS is mostly till the month of march, for
provincial, university and enterprise scholarships may differ university to
university.

If you want to apply more than one university make separate account for other university.
You can use same email address for making more than one account.

Which programs are offered

Masters and phd

In some universities bachelor but their language of instruction is chinese


Eligibility and criteria
1.
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health
2.
Education background and age limit;
Applicants for undergraduate program must have senior high school diploma with good academic performance
and be under the age of 25.
Applicants for masters degree program must have bachelors degree and be under the age of 35
Applicants for doctoral degree program must have masters degree and be under the age of 40.
Applicants for Chinese language training program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of
35.Chinese language is the only subject available.
Applicants for general scholar program must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study and be
under the age of 45. All subjects including Chinese language are available.
Applicants for senior scholar program must have masters degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate
professor or above, and be under the age of 50.
