Material design
1. The most obvious change in Lollipop is the fresh design
aesthetic, called Material. It changes every thing about how
Android looks, from the setup menu, app drawer and
notification shade to animations and icons. Even the onscreen
back, home and recent app buttons look different; they're now
simple geometric shapes.
2. Animations are everywhere, with expanding and condensing
effects of open and exiting the app drawer, a zooming effect
when swiped down to unlock the screen and sliding animation
when swiped down from the top of the display to view
notifications and the quick settings menu.

setup assistance
1. Aside from the design overhaul, in the setup process on Lollipop is
"Tap & Go" setup. Tap & Go, as it can be drawn from the name,
lets tap new device to old device and transfer the content . It uses
NFC to initiate the pairing of a Bluetooth connection between the
devices, and then hands the account details from one device to the
other.
2. Google has improved the standard cloud-based restoration option in
Lollipop as well.. We can choose which device you want to restore
from and choose which apps from that device to install. By default
the setup process will choose your most-recently-used device and
include all of the apps on that device.

notification bar
1. Notifications have always played a big role in Android, tucked
away in a menu at the top of the screen that could be swiped
out of sight., Lollipop keeps that same setup, but also adds
notifications to the lock screen.
2. Each alert appears as a card that can be swiped down on to
expand the message. It can also swipe to clear it away or tap
it to interact it with it, which will open the corresponding
app.
3. The card design also appears in the notification shade, which
can swiped down from the top of any screen to reveal.

heads-up notification
1. Another addition is the heads-up notification, which shows
small pop-up alerts at the top of the screen. It can be
interacted with or respond to the notification and then move
on, without even needing to open the notification drop-down
menu.
2. Or, it can be swiped up to store it in your notification menu
for later.
3. Currently, Interruptions (phone calls, alarms and texts)
trigger heads-up notifications, but app developers can use
them, too.

Multitasking
1. Multitasking gets a makeover in Lollipop. Doing away with
"recent apps," a new menu called Overview shows apps that
are running in the background as a stack of cards, instead of
the previous list view.
2. Overview shows you multiple tasks within individual apps.
3. It's a much faster way to browse open apps than the previous
recent apps menu, which took up more space on the screen,
and yet didn't always show a legible preview of what was
going on in the app.

Multiusers
1. Android Jelly Bean introduced multiple user profiles for
tablets, and now phones can use them, too.
2. If you don't have your phone with you, you can now log in
to another Lollipop device to access your contacts, messages
and photos using Guest mode.
3. Another device-sharing feature is screen pinning, where you
lock an app on the screen, hand the device to someone else,
they won't be able to leave the app to explore the rest of the
device.

Quick settings
1. It can be now opened by swiping past notifications or swiping
down with two fingers from the top of the screen.
2. The menu houses controls for a flashlight, airplane mode,
screen-casting and the screen rotation lock.
3. There's a brightness slider at the top with improved Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth toggles below, that let you turn these services
off and on, as well as quickly access more advanced settings.

Security
1. Another addition to Lollipop includes a new way to unlock
your device, called Smart Lock, that uses any compatible
Bluetooth device -- such as the Moto 360 -- or an NFC tag,
to automatically unlock
2. Encryption is now enabled by default on all Android phones
and tablets running 5.0 Lollipop, which helps keep your them
safe by scrambling the data on it. .

Android Runtime(ART)
1. Google includes a new runtime on Android Lollipop to bring
a faster, smoother and powerful computing experience.
Android Runtime or ART improves application performance
and responsiveness, smoother user interface and compacting
background apps and services for improved multitasking.
2. ART was available on Android KitKat but not as a default
runtime environment.. It is now default runtime in Android
5.0 .
Camera APIv2
1. With Android 5.0 Lollipop, developers have the power to make
camera apps that give the user control over shutter speed and allow
for lossless raw (in DNG format) image output.
2. It also allow app makers to go as deep as changing the color
correction matrix, as well as benefit from massively faster camera
burst rates.
3. This opens up a world of possibilities for post-processing, as you
can just take the RAW files and non-destructively edit them to get
the most out of an image - better dynamics, suppressed noise, and
all the other benefits of having files with no compression rather
than compressed JPEGs.

Multimedia Enhancements
1. New MediaSession APIs for controlling media playback now make it easier to provide consistent media controls across
screens and other controllers.
2.
Android 5.0 also adds support for multimedia tunneling to provide the best experience for ultra-high definition (4K)
content and the ability to play compressed audio and video data together.
3.
It also improved multimedia performance, including lower-latency audio and USB audio accessory support.
Power Enhancements
1. Android now integrates Project Volta (power saving mode) as the next big thing to squeeze more battery life on phones
and tablets. With this feature, developers can better understand how apps impact device battery life and allows them to
schedule code execution so that applications are optimized using the limited battery in the most appropriate manner.
2.
Android Lollipop 5.0 also includes a new battery saving feature that promises to extend the length up to 90 additional
minutes. Likewise, it will now be easier to see how much time is left before you have to charge your phone or tablet
again; also shows you the time remaining to complete charging the device.
Advanced connectivity
1. Android 5.0 adds new APIs that allow apps to perform concurrent operations with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE),
allowing both scanning (central mode) and advertising (peripheral mode)..
2.
New multi-networking features allow apps to query available networks for available features such as whether they are
Wi-Fi, cellular, metered, or provide certain network features. Then the app can request a connection and respond to
connectivity loss or other network changes.
3.
NFC APIs now allow apps to register an NFC application ID (AID) dynamically. They can also set the preferred card
emulation service per active service and create an NDEF record containing UTF-8 text data.
