ABSTRACT:
Second-generation gas-insulated lines for high power
transmission.
GIL high power transmission technology
The outstanding features of a GIL system are its high
transmission capacity, low losses, high safety (no fire hazard)
and flexible installation options.
Due to presence of SF6, GIL are fire resistant. So safety to
person and environment is ensured
GIL can be laid above ground, installed in tunnels or buried
directly in the soil, depending on individual requirements.

CONSTRUCTION:

GIL has 2 concentric

aluminum tubes. Tube made
up of corrosion resistive
aluminum alloy.
Outer conductor is to cover
inner conductor and gas
filled in it.
Tubes are welded by
computerized process and
tested by ultrasonic device.
These insulator help to put
inner aluminum tube at
center.
Mixture of gas is filled between inner and outer tube.
Mixture of gas consists of 80% nitrogen and 20% SF6( Sulphur
hexafluoride)
The 2 gases are act as a insulating medium.

FLEXIBLE GRID CONNECTION:

GIL suited for any kind of
routing , for instance through
built-up area or road crossing
etc.
The outstanding features GIL
are remarkable flexible for
different application.
It can be linked directly, one
to one overhead line and
continues underground line.
As a result of low electrical capacitance of GIL, compensating reactors
are generally not required.
GIL are also suitable for direct connection to sub-station or transformer.

SAFETY IN OPERATION:
GIL are safe to touch in
operation.
They are fire proof and
explosion proof because of
SF6 & N2 gases are used.
GIL is non flammable, no
fire risk in the event of
failure

Lowest electromagnetic field.

GIL has routing without angle unit.

ROUTE PLANING:

GIL suitable for completely new routing through

populated area (ex. next to a hospitals or residential area
rush place etc).
It can be laid in tunnel to through the buildings,

LAYING METHODS

ABOVE GROUND INSTALLATION:

This installation are

unaffected by ambient
temperature.
Corrosion protection is
not necessary.
There e no environment
affect
TUNNEL INSTALLATION:

This installation are

easy way to inspection.
There is no wastage of
agriculture area.

VERTICAL INSTALLATION :

It can be installed
without a problem at any
gradient ,even vertically.
Especially installed for
hydropower plant.
BURIAL INSTALLATION:

GIL installed in under

the soil is called burial
installation.
There is no corrosion
because of gitl made up of
corrosion resistive alloy.
Reuse of agriculture
land.

TECHNICAL DATA:
RATED VOLTAGE

240 to 550 KV

RATED CURRENT

Up to 4500A

IMPLUSE WITHSTAND VOLTAGE

1,050 To 1,675 KV

FREQUENCY

50 to 60 Hz

ADVANTAGES:
No fire risk
High power
rating(upto3700MVA)
High overload capability.
High safety(due to presence of
SF6)
Maintenance is less
No Losses
Reactive component is not
needed
Lowest electromagnetic field
No explosion
High reliability

CONCLUTION:
If we use the GIL
transmission line, we
can reduce our power
demand in our
country.
This GIL transmission
line do not affect
environment.
Compare to other
transmission line.GIL
has high efficiency.
