Field Data Collection

The job scobe of this activity is to check daily process

equipment data and recorded it according in daily log book
sheet.
The operating data is required to monitor and ensure
equipment operated within control range

by operator

11

DAILY ACTIVITIES (CONT)

Distributed Control System (DCS) data monitoring

All the plant and machineries are being monitored through

DCS in the panel room to ensure that the condition
maintained in safe range.
From DCS panel, any abnormalities or defect can be detected
and immediate action can be taken.

CONCLUSION

PETRONAS GAS BERHAD as host company has given me a very good

technical exposure and experience opportunity.
Based on the on the exprience and exposure during my training
period in UK, I standly believe that the objective of the training has
been achieved.
1.
To familiarize and expose the student with the real working
environment
2.
To widen skill in safety practices, work ethics, communication,

INTRODUCTION

Industry oil and gas have become significance for developing

country such as Malaysia.
However, the increasing industrialization has given some
impact on ecosystem and environment which human relies on.
Discharging industrial waste water without being treated
further can contaminate water and soil that may lead
disturbances to the ecosystem.
Once the organic pollutants are discharged into watercourse,
biodegradation by the microorganism will take place.

25

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Waste water from the refinery and industry has become one of
major sources to water pollution.
This is because in the various type of industries, a large
amount of fresh water is used to be raw material, as a mean
of production and also for cooling purpose.
Concerning on the environment and ecosystem, the discharge
of waste water need to be treated and improve its quality
before being released to river, coastal or lake.
The use of membrane filtration processes ie microfiltration,
nanofiltration, ultra filtration and reverse osmosis has offer a
lot of advantages for the treatment.

26

OBJECTIVE

i.

ii.

There are two main objectives for this research which are as
follows:
To characterize the parameter of industrial waste water after
treated
To treat the industrial waste water using different
characteristic of membrane.

27

SCOPE OF WORK

1.

The scope of this research project comprised of two

approaches i.e. :
Material preparation
Materials used in this research are flat membrane
(polymersulfone and polyethersulfone) and industrial waste
water (sample from UK)

2.

Characterization of sample waste water by using 7

parameter i.e : pH, BOD, COD, PO4, NH3, TSS, FCL

28

SELECTED LITERATURE
Ghoshal, A., & Purkait, M. (n.d.). Ultrafiltration of stable oil-inwater emulsion by polysulfone membrane. Journal of
Membrane Science, 325(2008), 427-437. Retrieved from
Science Direct.

This paper focus on treatment of oily wastewater coming out from the posttreatment unit of petroleum industries.
Use polysufone with additives ie : polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyethylene
glycol (PEG)
The experimental results showed

oil retentions of almost all the membranes were over 90%

oil concentration in the permeate was below 10 mg/L

29

METHODOLOGY

Synthesis of membrane
Raw material : polymer sulfone and polyether sulfone bead
Additive: polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)
Solvent : N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)
Measured amount of polymer (PSf) and (PES) along with PVP was
dissolved in the solvent (NMP) at room temperature (25 C) and
relative humidity (72%) to make the casting solution.
