1. Select a topic from the KSSR curriculum
2. Select a short play from any suitable source (DVD
version) that fits your chosen topic. Justify your
justification.
3. Devise suitable activities to develop language skills
with your learners.
4. Using the same play, suggest how you would help
develop aesthetic and moral values. (800 words)

Topic: What Are Friends For
Content standard:
4.3 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to
plan, organise and produce creative works for enjoyment.

listen and respond appropriately in formal and informal situations for a
variety of purposes.

Learning standard:
4.3.2 Able to plan, prepare and participate in a performance
with guidance based on literary works .

By the end of the lesson, all of the pupils will be able to:
a) Perform a role-play
b) Able to respond appropriately to situations

ACTIVITY
Teacher shows video to students.
After that, teacher explains on the value of
helping friends as shown from the scene
when Finn the Human says Homies help
homies, always to Jake the Dog, who was in
trouble.

Teacher picks a few pair of students to roleplay according to the situations.
The chosen pair will pick whether he/she act
as :
Role A: The one in trouble
Role B: The helping friend

ACTIVITY
Example of situations for Role A:
1. You forgot to bring your lunch box to
school and you are very hungry.
2. You lost your pencil case and cant
do any school work.
3. You accidentally scraped your knee
while playing in the playground.

ACTIVITY

The student doing Role A will be given a


piece of paper by the teacher, describing
the trouble she/he is facing and act it out.

The student doing Role B will observe


whats going on and act what he/she will
do to help their friend out.

JUSTIFICATION FOR VIDEO


1. Most of the young learners in language classrooms are digital
natives (Prensky, 2001).
2. Using cartoon film in teaching English does improve the
students speaking skill. ( Aninda, 2008)
3. Imagination and stories which involve an element of fantasy help
children make sense of the real world. (Halliwell, 1992)
4. Cartoons create a world to which kids can relate to. (Kaur, 2013)
5. Kids love funny things and cartoons provide them all of that.
(Kaur, 2013)

JUSTIFICATION OF ACTIVITY
Role play is an active, social activity where children can
get into character and use role play to reflect on and
develop their knowledge of a topic.
Develops communication and language skills.
Allows children to act out and make sense of real-life
situations.
Allows children to explore, investigate and experiment.
Develops social skills as children collaborate with others.

JUSTIFICATION OF ACTIVITY
Encourages children to express their ideas and
feelings in a relaxed environment.
Develops children's awareness of themselves
and others.
Gets children learning more as learning is
disguised as play.
Sparks creativity and imagination
