Atmospheric Pollution

What is air pollution?

Air pollution is the increase or
decrease of any of the atmospheric
gases at a rate harmful to the
existence of life and the removal of
other gases with the atmospheric air

Ways in which atmosphere get

polluted

Smoke from factories

Smoke emitted from vehicles
Forest fire and deforestation
Nuclear experiments
Volcanic explosions
Garbages
Pesticides

Smoke from factories

In production
process smoke
from factories
contain
poisonous
gases
like
carbon
monoxide,
sulphur dioxide
etc. spread in

Smoke emitted from vehicles

The smoke emitted from automobiles
contain
carbonmonoxide,
carbondioxide etc.

Forest fire and deforestation

Both these increases the amount of
carbondioxide in air.

Nuclear experiments
During nuclear experiments radio
active particles spread in the air
causing pollution.

Volcanic explosions
As a result of volcanic explosions
several poisonous gases, smoke,
dust particles etc spread in air.

Garbages
The gases from garbages smoke
from the burning of plastic and other
waste materials also pollute air.

Pesticides
The over use of pesticides pollute air.
Endosulphan

Other ways on pollution

Explosive materials used in war fields
and terrorist activities.
Fire works
Chloro fluro carbon
from air conditioners
Refrigerators
sprays

Acid rain
Due to atmospheric pollution a lot of
acid particles get mixed up with rain
water and falls as acid rain
The carbondioxide in the air mixes
with the water vapour and carbonic
acid is formed.
The water vapour and acids that are
mixed in the atmosphere fall as rain
and snow on earth.

Cause of acid rain

Pollute water- when the drinking
water gets polluted with acid it
causes problem for the kidney,
weakening of bones and affects the
growth of children
Affects the growth of plants- lead to
deterioration of agriculture sector
and threaten food security.

Remedial measures

Erect tall chimneys in factories

Use new model engines in vehicles
Control the use of fossil fuels
Avoid deforestation
Handle nuclear waste safely and properly
Avoid the use of fire works and explosive
materials.
Use bio pesticides in the place of
chemical pesticides

Bio degradable substances should be

converted in to compost manure
Solid waste which can be recycled
should be recycled.
Avoid or minimize of plastic materials
Control the use of substance used in
fridges and air conditioners which
produce chloro fluro carbon. Use
alternative substances

Air polluting activities in our locality

Smoke and dusts from near by
factories
Smoke from vehicles
Garbages in public place
Use of pesticides.

Remedial measure
Erect tall chimneys in factories
Harmful and foul gases can be
removed by using charcoal, zeolite,
ground limestone.
Solid waste collected should be
classified in their sources itself.
Biodegradable waste should be
converted into compost manure
Avoid or reduce the use of plastics
Use bio fertilizers.
