A 12 v battery is connected in a circuit having three series-1

connected resistors having resistance of 4ohm ,9ohm and

11ohm .determine the current flowing through and the p.d across
the 9ohm resistor .find also the power dissipated in the 11 ohm
resistor

Solution
:Total circuit of resistance
R=4+9+11=24 ohm
Current I=V/RT
A 0.5=12/24 =
P. D across the 9 ohm resistors:
v1=0.5*9=4.5 v
Power dissipated in the 11 ohm
: resistor
P=I2.R=(0.5)2*11
W 2.75 =

Given four 1ohm resistors , state how they must be connected to give-2
an overall resistance of :
a)1/4ohm b)1ohm c)1 1/3 ohm d)2 ½ ohm
all four resistors being connected in each state

Solution
a)All for in parallel:
1/R= 1/1+1/1+1/1+1/1=4/1
R=1/4ohm
b)Two in series ,in parallel with another two in series:
R1 =1+1=2ohm
R2=1+1=2ohm
Rt=(2*2)/(2+2)=4/4=1ohm
c) Three in parallel ,in series with one:
1/R=1/1+1/1+1/1=3/1
R=1/3ohm
Rt= 1+1/3=1 1/3 ohm
d)Two in parallel ,in series with two in series
R1=(1*1)/(1+1)=1/2ohm
R2=1+1=2ohm
Rt=2+1/2= 2.5 ohm
A resistor of 2.4 ohm is connected in series with another of 3.2-3
ohm.what resistance must be placed across the one of 2.4 ohm so that
?the total resistance of the current of the circuit shall be 5 ohm

Rt=5 ohm
R)/(24+R)+3.2=5 ohm*2.4(
R(1.8)=2.4*R)+1.8(2.4
0.6R=4.32
R=7.2 ohm
A resistor of 8ohm is connected in parallel with one of 12ohm and the-4
combination is connected in series with one of 4ohm a p.d of 10v is
applied to the circuit the 8ohm resistor is now placed across the 4ohm
resistor .find the p.d required to send the same current through the
.8ohm resistor

solution
:To calculate the total circuit resistance before adding of resistor 8ohm
R=(8*12)/(8+12)=4.8ohm
Rt= 4.8 +4=8.8ohm
I= V/R =10/8.8=1.1364 A
I 8={R12 /(R8+R12)}*I
0.6816A=1.136)}*8+12/(12={
Rt={(4*8)/(4+8)}*12=14.62ohm
V8=I*R8=5.4528V
V4=R4*I4
I4*4=5.4528
I4=1.3632A
It=I4+I8=2.0448A

6-For the circuit shown in fig. calculate:
a)voltage drop across the 4 ohm resistor.
B)the current through the 5kohm resistor
c)the power developed in the 1.5kohm resistor
d)the voltage at point x earth
e)the aboslute at point x
Solution
a)Rt=(5*5)/(5+5) +1.5 =4kohm
It =V/Rt=24/(4*10^3)=6mA
IT=6mA
I in top branch
I={5/(5+1+4)}*6=3mA
Volt drop across 4kohm= 3*10^-3*4*10^3=12V
b)Current through the 5kohm resistor
I= {(1+4)/(5+1+4)}*6=3mA
c)Power in the 1.5kohm resistor
p+=I^2 *R
=(6*10^-3)^2 (1.5*10^3)=54mw
d)v=4*10^-3*4*10^3=12v
v=12v
