ELEMENTS OF FAIRS FAIR


Exposition
The fair was in town and Rajs father had promised to take Raj, Sam and Lee
to the fair. The children were excitedabout the games they can ride at the fair.
Sams father permitted her to go to Raj and Lee. Lees mother did not permit
Lee to go to the fair as she did not have the money for him.
Conflict / Rising Action
Lee told his friends he was unable to go with them as he had no money.
Raj and Sam promised to help him.
They talked about the jobs they could do to get money.

Climax
The children washed Sams fathers car but ended up not getting paid.
Sams father was angry as they had messed up the washing.
They took Mrs Greens dog for a walk and got paid a pound.
Lee had to pay a small girl a pound as the dog had caused her ball to become flat.

Falling Action
Lee still had no money for the fair.
He found a purse loaded with money.
He returned it to the owner who rewarded his honesty with five pounds.

Resolution
Lee finally had money to go to the fair.
His two friends were happy for him.

Fairs fair: there is a play on the word fair . The word means:
i. A gathering of stalls for public entertainment
ii. Just or unbiased
iii. Fairs fair means all those involved should act in the right way

Imagery

The washing of the car and walking the dog together create the
image of close friendship among the children.
The handling over of the money to the little girl for the ball
being bitten by the dog is an image of being just and fair.

Repitition

The childrens words said and repeated by each other e.g. We


can go on the We can go on the. are used for
emphasis and to stress the excitement of going to the fair.

CHAPTER 1 GOING TO THE


FAIR
SUMMARY
Lee, Raj and Sam were best friends.
They lived in the same street and were neighbours.
One Saturday, Rajs father said he would take the three friends to the fair
that night.
All the three children pictured the rides they would like to go on at the fair.
Sams father gave permission for Sam to go and told her not to be late.
Lees mother did not give permission as she had no money for him.
Sam and Raj were upset that Lee could not go with them.
They talked about doing odd jobs to get the money for Lee.

CHAPTER 2 DOING ODD JOBS


SUMMARY
The three friends went off to find some jobs to do.
Sams father allowed them to wash his car.
As they started washing the car, Lee commented that the car was very
dirty.
Sam felt insulted and threw water at Lee.
This started them on a water fight and they all ended up wet but the car
was not washed.
Sams father was angry and he did not pay them anything.
He had to wash the car himself

They went to ask Rajs mother but she had no jobs for them.
Mrs. Green gave them the job of walking her dog, Micky.
They took Micky to the park.
At the park, Micky ran after a little girls ball and got hold of it.
Mrs. Green paid them one pound but Lee gave the money to the little girl.
The girls ball had been bitten flat by Micky.
They still had no money for Lee

CHAPTER 3 ITS GOOD TO BE


HONEST

The three children, especially Lee, were upset because Lee had not made
any money.
They saw a woman walking up the street.
Something fell out from her bag.
Lee picked it up and saw it was a purse with a lot of money.
For a moment, the children thought they could keep the purse.
Lee would have money for the fair.
But, they did not keep the purse.
Lee returned the purse to the woman.
She was grateful and gave Lee a reward of five pounds.9
The children were happy they could go to the fair together.
