what is SIX SIGMA ?

S

ix Sigma, 6 sigma or 6 :

* Measure of quality
* Methodology for eliminating defects

How can we achieve a SIX SIGMA PROCESS ?

And, what is a defect for SIX SIGMA ?

The statistical representation of Six Sigma describes

quantitatively how a process is performing !

PLAN
Establish the
objectives and
processes
necessary to
deliver results in
accordance with
the expected
output
DO
Implement the
plan, execute
the process,
make the
product.

CHECK
Study the actual
results and
compare against
the expected
results to
ascertain any
differences

ACT
Analyze the
differences to
determine their
root causes.
Determine
where to apply
changes that
will include
improvement of
the process or
product.

Define the problem, the voice of the customer, and the

project goals, specifically.

Measure key aspects of the current process and collect

relevant data.

Analyze the data to investigate and verify cause-and-effect

relationships. Determine what the relationships are, and
attempt to ensure that all factors have been considered.

Improve or optimize the current process based upon data

analysis using techniques

Control the future state process to ensure that any

deviations from target are corrected before they result in

defects.
Some organizations add a Recognize step at the beginning,
which is to recognize the right problem to work on, thus
yielding an RDMAIC methodology.

IX SIGMAS METHODS

The DMAIC project methodology has five phases:

DMADV or DFSS
The DMADV project
methodology, known as DFSS
("Design For Six Sigma"),[41]
features five phases:

Define design goals that are

consistent with customer
demands and the enterprise
strategy.
Measure and identify CTQs
(characteristics that are
Critical To Quality), product
capabilities, production
process capability, and risks.
Analyze to develop and
design alternatives, create a
high-level design and
evaluate design capability to
select the best design.

Design details, optimize the

design, and plan for design
verification. This phase may
require simulations.
