In recent years tourism has grown to a point where popular areas are
massively invaded by tourists

Neighbours are evicted due to recession and speculation, more tourist


apartments appear, the social network is disrupted.
Traditional shops are closing down due to recession and new bars or
tourist-oriented businesses appear.

Neighbours cant sleep at night due to loud, drunk tourists in the streets.

The feeling downtown is that we are being invaded by tourists.

Inequalities and poverty: Life expectancy

Food and fuel poverty are an increasing problem among Barcelonas inhabitants
The proportion of people in long-term unemployment grew in 2012-2013, with
women and older people the most affected.
Barcelonas life expectancy rates decreased slightly in 2012 for the first time
since 2005: 79.9 years for men, 85.7 for women.

Disparities in life expectancy according to


districts and neighbourhoods are striking:

Ciutat Vella (76.5 years) and Nou Barris (78.7)


recorded the lowest rates
Les Corts (81.8) and Sarri-Sant Gervasi (81.4)
had the highest life expectancy.
