Introduction
Polymer nanocomposites are materials with polymers as the
matrix phase with a small addition of nanoparticles acting as
reinforcement. These materials have drawn a great deal of interest in
recent years because they possess high potential of achieving great
property improvement. These are lightweight materials and have
been widely used in various applications such as defence, high
performance engineering plastics, and automotive.

Objective
To develop the Nitrile rubber/MMT nanocomposite and to study
the thermal stability, Flammability and mechanical properties of
developed nanocomposites.
The nitrile rubber /MMT clay nanocomposites were prepared by
latex blending method followed by melt mixing of compounding
ingredients by using two-roll mill.
The rubber was cross-linked by means of dicumyl peroxide (DCP)
in the presence of zinc oxide (Zno).

Work Plan
In the present work, Nitrile rubber take and mixed MMT nanoclay
with different wt. ratio will be taken for developing nano composite
material industrial application.

In this paper a study has been done directed to explore the advantages of Nitrile
rubber MMT nanocomposites for electrical insulation applications. Mechanical
properties such as tensile strength and elongation at break were tested. Thermo
gravimetric analysis was carried out to analyse the thermal stability of the
nanocomposites. Thermal stability, fire hazard, volume and surface resistivity of
the nanocomposites were also measured.

In this paper a study has been done directed to explore the advantages of Nitrile rubber
OMMT nanocomposites for outstanding mechanical applications. The development of
polymeric nanocomposites is an interesting area in advanced research. The properties of
polymers like chemical and fluid resistance, flame retardency, high mechanical strength to
weight ratio make them suitable for mechanical industries. Nitrile rubber is the lead polymer
currently used automobile industry. The results obtained for various properties indicate that
the Nitrile rubber nanocomposites have improved mechanical, thermal and dielectric
properties.

Preparation of nanocomposites
Rubber compounds were prepared in an open two-roll
mill. The compounding ingredients (zinc oxide 5 phr;
stearic acid 3 phr; sulfur 2 phr; and accelerator (NS),
1 phr) were added to the elastomer after the incorporation
of the clay and the accelerator was added at the
end of mixing. The compounds are denoted NBR-M
and NBR-OM for MMT- and OMMT-lled compounds,
respectively. The loading of ller is also indicated
in the compound notation. The compounds
were cured at 160 C in a heated press (Carver, Wabash,
IN) under a pressure of 5 MPa for the optimum
cure time, which was determined from a curemeter
(ODR-2000, Alpha Technology, Akron, OH), to make a
rubber sheet for mechanical testing.

Properties Evaluation
The sample will characterize by the techniques
Mechanical Tensile , Hardness
Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC)
Thermo gravimetric Analysis (TGA)
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
