Examiners Report
Most candidates had trouble with this question & produced answers
that referred vaguely to risk assessments
Without addressing the specific issues associated with the
development of part of a waste management system
Examiners Report
In answering this question, candidates were expected to consider not only
the safety implications but also those issues that would have an effect on the
environment
The question specifically asked for an outline of those issues to be
considered in the
Handling
Temporary storage
& disposal of the waste material
& those candidates who did best structured their answers under these
headings
The use of competent employees who had received training in the risks
arising from the operation & the precautions to be observed
The provision & use of PPE such as gloves, overalls & eye protection
The protection of drains against pollution from spillage & safe means of
transport of the waste to a temporary storage site
The storage area should provide adequate containment for the waste
material & should be protected & made secure against fire, vehicles,
trespassers & the weather
The waste would need to be marked, labelled & an accurate inventory kept
& arrangements made for separation of incompatible materials
Final disposal would have to be carried out by a licensed waste carrier
