PROJECT
SUMMARY
Depression had become worrisome
to the
world as it becomes one of major public
health problem. There are tremendous numbers of effective treatments and
antidepressant drugs available to treat depression. However their safety and
adverse effect were doubt. Thus, researcher had paid attention to this problem and
working to discover new ways to develop an alternative method that is effective
but safe. Citrus hystrix was reported possess phytochemicals content. Thus, this
study was design to investigate the antidepressant-like activity of Citrus hystrix
juice on depression-induced mice in TST and FST.
OBJECTIVES

1.To observe the effect of Citrus hystrix juice supplementation

on behavioural characteristic of rats induced with depression.
2. To determine the level of serum cortisol and plasma glucose
after administration of Citrus hystrix juice

This
may
possesses
an
antidepressant
adjuvant. From the result, both TST
and FST antidepressant assessment
shows
reduced in immobility
behavior and thus increased their
time mobile. However, for serum
cortisol and plasma glucose assay,
both of these test does not show
any significant difference in their
rhythm in blood circulation. Based
from
previous
study,
stressor
intensity did affect the level of
cortisol and glucose in blood. Acute
to moderate stressor may not
causing both parameter affected.
Therefore, this findings suggested
that, Citrus hystrix juice can be used
as supplement to reduce stress.
