METAL CLADDING

Metalcladdingis a type of claddingmade of metal.

Its function is to protect the exterior or interior of a building.

Outside of structural protection, claddingcan also be used to

improve the look of a building.
Metal claddingcan be very useful asmetalin general very
strong and durable, and it has wide variety of types and
finishes provide for aesthetic versatility.
Metalcladdingcan also be used for roofing.

Different metals used for cladding are as follow:

STEEL:
Desired for its high strength, but is typically only used for industrial
applications.
Galvanized steel, which is incredibly popular for bothcladdingand other
applications where long-lasting strength is required.
Most grades of steel are prone to rust and typically require regular
maintenance.

TITANIUM
Combination of outstanding corrosion resistance, strength, light weight and
durability gives it the longest life span of any metal, under any conditions,
with minimal maintenance.
It withstands urban pollution, marine environments, acid rain, volcanic ash
residue, industrial emissions and other extremely aggressive atmospheric
conditions.
Titanium will not weather or fade due to ultraviolet rays.
Titanium has the lowest coefficient of thermal expansion of all architectural
metals
Titanium is considered to be environmentally friendly. It is 100% recyclable,

COPPER:
It is often chosen for its aesthetic appeal alone.
Copper starts out as a bright, shiny orange, but eventually corrodes into a
light green.
This colour is highly desirable for many buildings and is often chosen solely
for that purpose.

ZINC:
Its soft, malleable and flexible construction allows it to meet almost every
architectural demand.
Zinc is an extremely durable and low maintenance material with exceptional
longevity and an average life span of 60 to 80 years in a severe marine
environment.

ALUMINUM:
Cannot rust or corrode, making it highly desirable for homes, buildings or
other structures located close to an ocean.
Aluminum is also very lightweight, making it usable for both side androof
cladding.
Easy to install and it can be painted nearly any colour.
The only downside is that aluminium is not as strong as steel and may not

SOLAR PANELS AS CLADDING

Ideal for south facing walls
Great for supplementing existing roof or parking lot installations
Non-lethal, low voltage DC to AC power
Increases the value of your building
Generates income.
They are sold in sections to simplify installation.
Light-weight for ultimate construction efficiency
Adaptable design to enable the incorporation of emerging technologies

maintenance needs, and it is a very good insulator. It is also

durable, and very easy to install.
Metal cladding does score badly on the direct environmental
impact as mining the materials required for metal is extremely
harmful to the environment.
However the material does have good longevity, it is
recyclable and importantly you can use recycled metals for
your cladding.

No.2 Wood/Timber cladding

It is eco friendly and sustainable timber cladding is a strong
choice.
The raw materials are renewable or at least replaceable and
timber will do the jobs of insulation, weatherproofing and
protecting your home.
Its strongest point to the self builder is that it carries a pleasing
aesthetic design with relatively simple installation.
What makes metal cladding a better choice than wood is that
metal performs the roles of insulation, weather proofing and
security better than wood, it is easier to install and importantly
the cost of timber is significantly higher than the cost of metal
cladding.
In addition the timber needs a lot of maintenance and the
longevity of the material is short.

No.3 Vinyl cladding

Vinyl cladding is even more versatile than metal cladding and
can offer excellent aesthetics but comes with a heavy
environmental price.
If it wasnt for the environmental effect of making plastics, Vinyl
cladding would be abest option.
The material is durable, good as an insulator, offers good
protection against the elements as well as an impressive
longevity.
It is the cheapest of the 5 materials in this list and offers great
variety in design.

No.4 Stucco cladding

This material is another cheap option and the basic materials are
in plentiful supply.
It is versatile aesthetically, it is fire retardant and durable.
It has evolved with time, and contains a lot of concrete in its
mix, making its environmental impact large.
One cannot use recycled Stucco cladding.
